Warranty extension...

Took one out on the T5 just for year 4, has had lots of problems with the T5 early days. The VW warrantee cost nearly £1000. I was doing 30,000 miles a year at the time. Within 1 month the cam went on the 174hp engine, it would have cost about £2500 for a new cam. So i got my cash back and then some. A couple of months later had a drive shaft go on the drivers side, and VW just refuses to pay out. VW UK are complete crooks imo.
Fortunately never really had another problem.
I guess if the BMW M135's don't have many common problems (unlike the early T5) I might not bother; but if there are some common failures of expensive bits I guess the £360 saved and £500 excess won't get you very far when labour rates are £100/hr plus in many high end franchised dealerships.

For what reasons did VW give for not paing out on something that was under Guarantee ?

I think they class them as a wear and tear items especially if you alter the ride height.

The AA do a warranty we put it on a mini at the end of the three year BMW warranty. About 4 years ago and it cost £55 for the year . It does have limits but if the car has been serviced by the dealers up to then you should be ok. You can get it taken to one of there garages and they pay them or your chosen garage or main dealer and you claim it back . It worth a look at .

Up to three MONTHS old to qualify for the proper VW extension. Loads have missed out on it.
Is that from the date of manufacture? Just thinking... a conversion company can take 3 months....

I have always used warranty direct on my two landrover discoverys I have owned for the last 13 years.

Negotiate on the phone, and the price drops, Get 'no betterment' for excluding wear and tear, and also main dealer labour rates. Plus other things. normally something like 30% discount (if i remember right) after they phone you back following the web quote.

I had a compressor on the discovery fail before xmas (as I am trying to sell it), so this needed full replacement at main dealer (I have always had it serviced by main dealer). 3.5 years old and 75,000 miles on the clock, and they have paid the £1175 replacement bill less £50 excess. Result.

My last disco was on 170,000 miles and still had a warranty direct warranty that would only pay out if I had it recovered after a breakdown (it was 9 years old). I still had a payout on that.

Much cheaper than a land rover warranty, but not sure about the VW one, but a thumbs up for them without a doubt.

I think so but not certain.

It’s the best value warranty extension I’ve ever seen. The previous one on the T5 was the WORST value!

I checked with Hillside this morning and they say its 3 months from the date of first registration, which is usually the day of collection
