Welcome new members

Hello all. Ex-pat yank in Surrey 7 years now. Just joined the forum after picking up a 2016 Volkswagen Transporter 132 Highroof, 2.0 Diesel, Automatic DSG yesterday. Been searching for about six months for the right VW Transporter. Decided I wanted SWB, automatic transmission, 3+ seats, low mileage, and ULEZ compliant spec. (Euro 6) for trips into London, etc. All within a fixed budget. This particular one’s been mobility converted by Lewis Reed. It’s not something I need or was looking for but caught my eye with potential to haul equipment, bikes, big dogs, etc…High roof, lowered floor, tailgate ramp, extra lighting, a winch. Considering some camper/travel options, but trying to keep modular for whatever comes. Happy to keep it more stealth, and not in a hurry, or with much leftover dosh now to do more than fuel it really. So far just getting out on the road and getting a feel for it. Blackpool to Guildford yesterday and handled like a dream. Like many, not crazy about passenger double seat position so may opt for the vancraft.co.uk seat bracket. Also looking at wheel options. Just thought I’d jump in and share and get inspired.

Thanks!

Welcome to our gathering @Blotto , it will be fascinating to see what you do with this! Keep us posted along the way, however long it takes, this could be a creation and a half! Good to have you!

Hello all, this looks like a really useful and active forum and I hope I'll have something useful to contribute soon :)

I have just bought a 72 plate Shuttle SWB BiTDi from a main dealer. No pics as it is still at the dealers 300 miles away at the moment, but apart from the engine it's fairly basic spec, just + heated screen, pro nav. Mojave beige. Would have loved other things like privacy glass, folding mirrors, but the price was good and I wanted an 8 rather than 9 seater, and SWB and BiTDi, so not many ticking those 3 boxes.

Anyway, plan is to use it 1/3 for big family get togethers (4 adult children), 1/3 for shifting big items around and 1/3 for makeshift camping. We've had Caravelles a few years back and this time I am deliberately sacrificing some poshness for reduced cost and for lower chiropractor bills when removing the rear bench.

Re the makeshift camping, I'm probably going to make a plywood platform to cover the whole width of the rear with both rear seat rows removed, leaving maybe 50cm or so gap at the rear, and bung a couple of Ikea foam mattresses on top of it. The platform will sit on some ply cross pieces about 30cm high, which effectively become storage spaces. Throw a massive duvet on top and you have something a bit quieter on the motorway and that functions like an instant super comfortable tent but is far more basic than a proper conversion. The ply bits just sit in the garage when not being used this way, the mattresses are useful in the house as spare temporary beds.

Anyone done similar to theirs ? I did the same with a V Class a few years ago (photos of ply structure attached). The VW should have a bit more space I think ?

All thoughts welcome.

Hi
I am in Cardiff with a '68 T6 LWB Kombi.

Currently had Oil sensors replaced and now having AdBlue sensor issue, running at 65 miles left on the sensor but tank is fairly full of AdBlue, going in tomorrow to be sorted, fingers crossed.
Happy travels everyone!

Hi,

Another newbie, based in Staffordshire, currently driving a T5.1. Found this forum by accident, I was searching for leaky roof bar solutions and came across some great advise on here (Threaded bar and nylocs) Looking forward to better weather and plenty of travels.

Good to have you @Du85ta ! Aldridge used to be in Staffordshire back in the day, we have to call ourselves Walsall now! How common....

Many thanks, where is the best place to put pictures DW?
On this thread to start with, then on the team 'candy white' thread? Certain members post their pictures just about everywhere! Can't have too many pictures, unless of course you have a Ravenna blue van which nobody likes !!! I do joke honest..... !
