What A Plonker!

Well I did it, how stupid am I ?
I filled the van with 4-Star. Realised as I replaced the gun but that was 50 stupid litres too late. Why?
I'd decided that from day 1 that I was only ever going to use the 'Ultimate' good stuff and I think it was this thought that threw me,
thinking (or, in truth, not thinking) the left gun was Petrol and the right was Ultimate.
Which it was. Hang on, its green not black - Ultimate petrol! What an idiot !
Pushed the van away from the pumps and called VW Assist for the first time, they offered two
solutions - to trailer it to a van centre but not for 2 days, or the AA Misfuelling man in 2 hours.
Took the AA option, great bloke called Stuart, chatting vans, family, putting the world to rights,
took nearly an hour to empty, most via the filler then the dregs via the fuel filter feed.
As I'd realised in time, I'd not even switched the ignition on so no bad fuel was pumped through.
Totting up my (mis)adventure, thats £80 of fuel lost, £250 call-out fee and £80 to refuel (after a very, very careful choice of pump)
so at over £400 I really wish I'd stayed in bed!
And now I'm told that my hard-earned extended warranty is probably useless as VW will blame any troubles on the misfuelling.
I could cry! Its all fixed now but really, I could cry!
Cheers

Ouch!! You didn’t start the van and had it sorted properly so call VW back to ensure they have correct sequence of events logged.

Don’t beat yourself up — I always have to check that I have the right nozzle several times but that is my OCD

At least it wasn't diesel in a petrol t6 that would of been messy, most of us have thrown petrol in a diesel car or van some time in our life's, costly mistake but no damage done, only to the wallet:thumbsup:

It’s worth pointing out here the mention of VW warranty
If you misfuel and call VW to sort the problem they log it and it can come back to haunt you, it gives them a get out if you have any future problems
We had a similar situation and I avoided VW and called a local misfuelling service who came out very promptly and removed and replaced the fuel at half the cost of VW doing it and without the onward implications that could follow

Sorry to read about your misfortune. Just curious. What do they do with the fuel they remove as I assume its now contaminated?

I was told they ‘dispose of it’ but if they are removing a full tank it won’t be that contaminated, reckon it could easily get reused more so if it’s watered down even more getting partially used on fills

Perk of the job then.

I made the same mistake when I miss fuelled my Jag. They informed me that the engine warranty was now void.

Gutted. Made the same mistake on a company vehicle once when I was employed, I filled and colleague paid. Then we drove off got about 10miles down the road and came to a stop. Whoops! Expensive day out and red faced when I next stepped into the office.

@Phil_G .... yep, did exactly the same for the very same reason when I had my Vito. The petrol station had the business card of a local independent and I took that option as it was quicker and cheaper than the AA

Glad you told the story, as a very interesting lesson about VW's continual 'dodging' is now etched into my brain, even though you never even started or moved !!
