What are the negatives in telling DVLA it’s a camper

I had my T6.1 changed from a Panel Van with three seats to a Van with Side Windows with 6 seats. I sent the V5 with a covering letter and photographic proof, as I was advised to do by the nice DVLA guy I spoke to. The V5 came back in about a week, I am now a Van with Side Windows with 9 seats - I assume just a typo.
As I understand it, what the DVLA think your van is only relates to how they tax you, and it isn't possible to change your tax type - ever. From a Road Traffic Act perspective, you are a DPV (Dual Purpose Vehicle). This is what is important for traffic offences, speeding etc.
The reason I wanted to change my V5? If I ever get pulled for over 60 in a 70 I will defend myself in court and can show that I was fully aware of the changes I made to the van, and the significance of them. It may make no difference, but I am more comfortable knowing I have done it.
Lots on the forum about speeding/DPV etc. etc.

Ok, let's ignore the pedantry (big fan of pedantry by the way).

OP is a new member, one of the things that I learned early on when I got my van was that I was subject to a different set of speed limits, no-one told me before I bought the van and it was reading the forum that alerted me to the fact that without rear windows I was still a Light Goods Vehicle. I was just trying to help by explaining what actions I took in relation to getting my V5 changed.

I would have hoped that VIP Members would have understood what I was referring to by the 'over 60 in a 70' reference?

Do you think it likely you'll ever be charged with not speeding?

I read it as tongue in cheek humour, at this end.

As for the OP’s question..
What are the negatives in informing the DVLA your van has been converted please advise
nothing springs to mind. Not informing them of seat and window changes leaves you open to issues if the worst happens and you need to make an insurance claim, or have to attend court and plead no case to answer if you’re charged with speeding in what is reported to be a panel van.

Did I miss something?

I too was unaware of the differences in speed limits before I joined this esteemed forum.

I was also unaware of EGR pipe splits, particulate filters, blingy wheels, dual bucket washing methods, the performance benefits of strategically placed go-faster stripes and whether I should have used an Oxford comma!

You shouldn’t use an Oxford comma ;)
