What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Re fitted the side bars After having them powdercoated, then proceeded to scratch one within a couple of hours of fitting them, I couldn’t fecking believe it :cry:
That's a real shame but does lead me to wonder quite how good the powder coating is. I've never had anything auto-related done but have had a bike frame powder coated and it was pretty tough.

there are some real nasty power coatings out there we use a fencing supplier and any powder coated fencing or gates you get a free can of spray for touch ups that says it all

I would have thought its cheaper/easier just to buy some new if they the norm tubular type? Circa £100 arent they?

I've taken my Kombi to Lancashire van centre for a cam belt.
Currently waiting with bated breath to find out if the belt is part of the recall, in which case I get a small bill.
Or not, in which case I get a big bill.

A proper powder coat should survive a bit of something gnarly against it. Scratching so quickly? Eh. It might get that from a loose chipping down the road.
Different thing, but, I remember my dad had the car windscreen replaced once (this was... a very, very long time ago. Tony Blair long time ago..) a week later a massive stone hit the screen and cracked it. Out came the glass people again... just saying, yes, it's annoying for you that it happened, but, it wont be long before all the crud on the road will give you all sorts of marks :(

Any who..
I've caught a bug.
I have now fitted a multiflexboard (I have a post that needs answering... please? :D )
Got some easy fit mud guards from TravellinLite - they seem good enough and while they seem like they may accumulate chunks of mud.. I'd rather clear some mud every now and have that little bit more protection from rubbish on the road.
Next is blinds.
Then... perhaps.. Led lights
Roof rails
And some bars.
Then if I'm happy with my mot and the clutch wear seems good, might get a gearbox and engine map.

It's the little things....

the caravelle rails are so neat...love em.

I have been looking for an awning draft excluder that also covers the rear wheel and protects the van paintwork from flapping awning tunnel edges (I’m a bit paranoid here)

Anyhow, nothing comes close to how I think it should be (except the Fiamma - how much) so I decided to make my own.

This is a development model but it fits well, it’s not pretty but it seems functional - the van parts fit with a magnetic strip and it has a bungee at mid wheel height either side of the door opening to help keep it in place rather than rely on the magnetic parts.

It’s off for field trials next week (did you see what I did there;)), I’ll keep you posted..

I'm not sure if this has been done to or bought for the van but we were undecided on whether or not to go up to Malvern for the Motorhome and Campervan show but when I saw that SVTech (Welcome) would be there that swung it for us as the weight being carried by a fully loaded T28 camper conversion has been on my mind a bit lately. After a chat with the SV Tech guy on the stand (a very nice chap named Richard) who advised that we could add 200Kg to the limit without any further modifications as we already have T32 rated wheels and tyres, I went back to the van and took a few evidential photographs (current weight plate (or whatever it's called), VIN plate, wheels and tyres), filled out a form with full details of the van and handed over some cash on the promise that I would have a new weight plate and certificate in the mail next week. That would then be sent to DVLA who would issue a revised V5 reflecting what was effectively a T30 weight capacity (the van would, of course remain as a T28 in name). That said, I reckon we will be into next summer before DVLA get around to doing anything!

As to the show in general, it was alright to wander around for an hour or so and while we didn't buy anything else, there were a lot of VW campers and motorhomes on display and it's always nice to see a bit of camper porn. I was also tempted by an Minster Polar insulated windscreen screen cover but after a close look came to the conclusion that it was a pretty insubstantial thing for the money being asked (but I know others speak highly of them). There weren't a lot of people there yesterday but I suspect today and tomorrow might be a different story if the weather is decent (or, at least, not chucking it down).

"heli-tape" the panels in question where it touches.... done right all you see is the edges of the clear decal...??

looks mint... is it just the slide door thats off colour a nats? you could have them blended in to other panels if you a nats off and the eye doesnt see it too much..talk to a good and i mean good ...painter..
Thanks buddy You’re right, it’s just the sliding door. Oddly the colour seems to blend into bright orange toward the rear again. There were a few chips here and there all over her when we bought her so got them to do a bit of touching up. Looking closely, it’s really obvious where’s been done and not done. I think a full respray may be on the cards in the not too distant future. I’d like to get the bumpers sport lined and colour coded so will probably look to getting it all done in a oner.

got my self a set of genuine v..w lwb l.e.d. sidebars very pleased with them still not on the van but maybe powder coat them black to break the colour as my window van is silver.now the wife wants a set typical. she is like a fxxking magpie.just had to pay for a new washing machine as ours crapped itself. was hoping for a stainless steel exhaust system.never mind.

hi buddy hold that thought...im on a mission to get them replicated and possibly make it a future venture...even the local bike shop went..."they are cool"..."how many can you get us"... something im looking into properly next couple of months :) they are brill... and..when they are filthy..you can still put in if need be and just brush the padded bag out later..no crap in the vehicle...

on it..
I'd be interested in the jazzy bags too
