What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Today, most of it at least, was taken up fitting Van X curtains to the 2 rear quarter windows. The surrounds are carpeted so that made life more difficult. I snapped 2 or 3 drills and snapped the heads off 2 screws. I wasn’t being heavy handed, that’s the case for the defence. I still to do the front quarters and the tailgate. First I’ll need to buy some more drill bits.

Difficult to avoid the drill snapping as it hits the panels behind and it’s hard to hold back as the drill breaks through - if space permits you can set the bit so it only sticks out a few mm and you can use a snapped end.
It’s worth making a thread in the hole with a good quality self tapping screw and then pulling the supplied (and softer) screws with a handraulic driver!
Looks like a neat job so far!

I was able to use an awl in some parts to punch a hole through without needing a drill, but in other parts - the top frame of the windown most notably - I couldn’t do that. I‘m not sure if I was being more reserved for fear of smashing the window or wherever the steel is thicker or double skinned there. I might try to use a ‘better’ screw first to cut a thread through. I’d like to find some black screws to use on the tailgate as the screw heads will be more visible than those in the window frames. The carpet certainly made it harder. I did try cutting it sand peeling it away a little, i might have to peel it back more to give myself a clear run at drilling without binding the carper around the drill. Nothing’s ever easy….

Maybe use a soldering iron or a hot nail to make a small hole in the carpet where the hole needs to be drilled. It will be hidden then by the rails and clip attachments.

So been waiting for this day 3 months and today was the day we dropped my t6 off at the conversion company haven’t got the time to do to much myself and not all the skills that a lot of you have on this forum i now can’t wait to the day I pick it up,did take a photo of the wheels that are going but will reveal the completed conversion work hopefully next week

nice wheels :)

Worked a treat on mine, what do you think?
Just done them on mine. So glad to have a nice “clunk” when shutting the door now! Can’t say I notice the cab being quiet but that’s probably the signature audio sound system drowning any noise out lol

Yes glad I fitted them but now slamming the drivers door doesn’t close it fully. I have to open it again and pull it firmly closed. Hopefully it will squash down and close first time.

And ordered a set of rear lights from transporter hq , the smoke 6.1 ones, just came in today , very excited for them to arrive

Interesting, similar on mine.
Drinkers side is fine, but drivers needs a firm push all the to closed..
Seems to be improving, or am I just getting used to it…
They definitely help reduce the noise level though!

Use a soldering iron to melt away a small area of carpet where you’re drilling. This will prevent binding!
Use a thick permanent marker to colour your screws!

Thanks, I will try the marker pen to ‘hide’ the screws. I’ve given up looking for black screws. I was advised to cut a cross in the carpet and peel it back. I made only a small nick in the carpet, I might try being a little more bold with my knife.
