What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

@Pleh be interested to see details of your headlight retrofit if you’ve got a build thread? I’m currently trying to rewrire a retrofit I paid to have done!

Previous wiring for level sensors and CAN for the headlight module!
That is appallingly crap. Unfortunately can be typical quality in the Wild West.
I’d be redoing by soldering and shrink wrapping . Loom wrap tape for a nice finish…
Name n shame?

I will inform you on how things are going ... I bought Kufatec headlight and level sensor wiring, so I hope there will be as less re-pinning as possible :)

Hoorah, I managed to measure something properly

I have two of these so one will sit either side of the bench floor mounts.

Just need to figure out how to keep them in place - either sandwiched between some carpeted plywood panels or using the load lashing points somehow.

Also, might help if I connect them to my amplifier

If there is space to put plywood under them? then you could make a piece that runs around under the speakers and extends to the adjacent lashing points at the base of the C pillar then bolt straight through the ply

Many thanks

Good shout sir

What bumper protector did you get? I'll probably post asking the question of others later but as you've mentioned it....
I'm asking as I've got a new bumper on mine and therefore need a new protector in silver (the old one just wouldn't come off or I would have reused it!). I've been fitting RGM Rear Guards on my cars for years now but can't help noticing that they're up to twice the price of some of the competition (and amazingly more than the VW OEM version). That said, RGM have always been a perfect fit.
I got a Matt black one form Leighton vans.

First mot exactly one year after picking her up as a standard bus (due 31/12/23 however I’ll be out of the country and I always do it as early as possible).

Knocked out 27.5k miles in this last year.

As you’d expect she flew through.

Bloody hell! I've only managed 20k in 3 years! I need to get out more!
Ha ha yeh I think 5 or 6 trips to Slovakia with a skirmish into Austria last winter and another trip heading out next week, plus 6 trips to Paris and a separate trip to Toulouse to visit a friend on his barge.

Spent about an hour outside in freezing temperatures wiring up my new subwoofers.

Removed rear 6x9s and the front/rear boards around the base of the Kombi bench.

Connected in series/parallel to give me 4ohms. Had a brief play with the DSP software and amplifier levels - sounds good on a range of music. Adds a nice level of bass without the earth shattering‘ness of the 15” subwoofers I had in my Escort van at the age of 20!

Also plugged in the amplifier remote bass adjuster knob.

Things I have learnt so far….

  1. Let a pro supply, install and set it up

Things still to do…

  1. Tidy wiring
  2. Decide where to fit bass knob and route cable/install
  3. Fit a ply/carpeted cover for the rear of the seat base or adjust wood shelf to allow OEM one to fit back on
  4. Decide whether I need/want rear speakers and if so where to fit them
  5. Decide how to stop the two subwoofers moving around and to hide them

(the wiring in this pic is the rear speaker wiring not for the subwoofers)

Playing with the main beam height as it’s a bit low so let’s see how high it is tonight.

Also winter -30 screenwash time for my European road trip. Hopefully won’t freeze up in middle of Germany like last time as I brought 9l back from Slovakia last year

I think your supposed to 50/50 it - I use it neat.

Before: It snowed a bit last night and my Cali needs to take us shopping ...

First left the heating on for an hour to clear the windows while we had breakfast, then backed it out of the drive and drove to a local car park with a 2m height restriction - perfect for getting over a foot of snow off the roof. ;)

After: Returned with provisions for a few days, and there's a Z4 buried in there somewhere too.

Really must get round to building that car port.
