What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

My tow bar was already fitted to van, I just swapped over the actual tow ball part just 2 bolts, 20 minute job, your quote of £800 if it includes the 13 pin electrics being fitted/coded is about right from my experience, still a lot of money though
Haha lucky there.

I had my detachable tow bar fitted in September, £700 seems to be the going rate around here. That wasn't at home though, dropped it off to them
Got £720 and drop off so not too dissimilar. That's for a detachable as well.

Looks good. How long did it take you? Thinking of a detachable one and doing it myself as had quotes of £800, supply and fitted at home.

That's a fair price mate. The mobile ones were quite a bit more like £850 -9.
But 700-750 seems the going rate for detachable.

Haven't actually done anything myself as such, but...

...when I bought the van it was the tail end of the summer hols and Venture had one workshop guy on leave and another off sick. So, rather than delay delivery day in order to fit the Fiamma awning and a few other bits I agreed to let them have it at half term for a couple of days.

They've let me select the awning I want and I'm having the new more smoother looking cassette design in black. It's slightly more expensive but no extra charge, which is nice of them Can't wait to get it back.

Awesome.. bet that will look sweet. Had a quote for a Fiamma F45s for my LWB, just over £1k.. post Christmas for that.

It's the redesigned version of the F40van I'm having. £750 fitted. Looks quite sleek and the aramid-reinforced-plastic ends will be tough and won't flake and corrode like powder coat on the older models. I doubt they're making much profit but in an ideal world they'd have fitted it prior to sale but circumstances conspired against it. If the workmanship is as tight and precise as the rest of the conversion I'll be very happy.

They're fitting something else for me (security related, so would rather not say what on a public forum) and fixing the flap on the EHU cover which doesn't click shut properly.

I'll collect it Tuesday morning. I'm in no hurry and it gives time for the PU adhesive on the awning mounts to cure properly.

Well. Not today (it’s early) but yesterday. Fitted Fire Extinguisher in the cab ( drilled two 5 mm hokes in the seat frame with a Velcro strap too to stop any rattles). Bargain of £9:99 from Aldi. Also fitted BM2 to SB with inline 1 Amp fuse, heat shrink on all crimps and wrapped in loom tape to look OEM.
Two more jobs ticked off

Washed and added some Geyon Ceramic spary quick detailer over it to add some gloss and extend the Geyon coating underneath.

Just had a new heated windscreen fitted and thought it was clean!! After washing the car you could see all ther glue from the film/stickers that was on teh glass so out came the tar and glue remover and finished off with BH trace less. First time using the BH traceless after hearing some gopod reviews throught i better give it a go as my existing glass cleaner was running out. OMG it a game changer.

@chimpusmaximus. So what was the unit that you actually fitted (ie. a link would be useful)? Looks good though.
Its a unit I found on Ebay VW TRANSPORTER T6 2016-2021 Android 13 8-Core 4+64G Car Stereo Radio Sat Nav They also sell on Amazon t seems but more expensive for a lesser model.

The only two negatives thus far
Need to move vents across and they look to be heat welded one side.
No parking sensor display.

I plan to only really use with CarPlay and so far it's been very smooth.

As I said, it looks good but I think the parking sensor thing would be a deal breaker for me.

I still get audio feedback but nothing on screen. I'm going to go back to the seller and check as they have been reaching out to see how I have found it so far.

Finally finished my big b@ast@rd battery. Same spec as the 300ah Fogstar one, using the same BMS and heat pads. Mine works works out a few kilos lighter. And £500 cheaper.
And I did the passenger door.
If anyone builds a battery with these cells, be very careful torquing the bolts on the terminals. I broke the main positive when undoing a bolt. However, Fogstar were good enough to replace it for free.

Finishing touch applied to the electrical tidy up

This is how the converters left it, no fuses, batteries not secured, damaged battery leaking

Rewired, Fuse box, neg bus bar & Roamer Smart4 battery fitted and secured. It was a right pain to get at everything, being below the cupboards & only accessible from under rhe R&R bed!

And finally, father in law printed a cover to fit over the fuse box etc. Looks infinitely neater - and safer!

Literally just got back into the office... just picked it up  birds have gone, now quiet as a mouse... had a glow plug done too so all good.. yay.. not going to feel paranoid driving it wondering if something will happen...
Mine was in yesterday for a Big Service & for the same squealing on cold start & chirping noise. They’ve investigated & seem to think it’s the Crankshaft Pulley. Recommend a new pulley, tensioner & belt. Parts on order.

seem to think
That's one of the things that gets me about dealership service departments nowadays (although it might just be a reflection on the modern car industry in general). It almost seems that if the computer diagnostics can't tell you what the issue is (ie. a purely mechanical problem), the 'technician' often doesn't have a clue so they start a process of elimination that ther punter of course has to pay for. I had an experience with my Audi a while ago where a light was telling me about an engine problem in my now 10 year old (but relatively low mileage) Q5 which Carista (and the Audi system at the dealership whatever that's called) narrowed down to an issue with the adblue system. Audi only seemed to be able to say it could be such and such, such and such Mk2 or such and such Mk3' all of which would be increasingly expensive (from £450 to grands!) and none were guaranteed to work until, possibly, the last one. In the end, I chose to pay £200 odd to get the adblue system deleted and the car has been happy ever since. Some will say that it's not the environmentally friendly thing to do but the car is still passing it's MOTs (and associated emission tests) and I've got quite a few more quid in the bank that I otherwise wouldn't have had.

Agreed. Similar to my trade, if I were to throw parts at a faulty boiler until the issue was resolved instead of spending time fault finding my way to the actual cause & replacing the component that needed changing, I’d expect there to be questions asked upon invoicing, regarding any unnecessary work carried out beforehand.

Sadly the motor industry does seem to be immune of this to some degree.

That said, the guys come with a good reputation so I’ll go with thier judgement, but the above analogy will be getting wheeled out if the work doesn’t resolve the problem.

Collected itfrom having the awnign fitted.

It's the updated version of the Fiamma F40van. Neater end caps, no problems with rattles that the old one could sometimes be prone to, no cassette sagging in the middle like grannie's thruppenies.

Only downside is that its hardly low profile because the big beefy Redline pop top gets in the way of that sorrt of mounting. However, it sits neatly alongside the big beefy Redline pop top, which disguises it fairly well, and doesnt look at all out of place so happy days.

They also did something else for me that im very happy with. I'm happy, they're happy, t'is a day of happiness for all concerned.
