Wheel-arch - Sound-Deadening internally or externally?

Yesterday
Done the inside of the wheel arches,
and had some thermo liner left over so used it up to help cut down on the roads noise

You did silentcoat on the arch and dodo on the liner? Space wasnt an issue?

This jobs on my lockdown agenda...!

No. There's a void between the two which will allow some extra material to be used.
I've just finished Silent Coating the outside of my rear arches and while I didn't put extra sound proofing on the liner I am intending to use thin dodo mat on the inside. I think it is soft enough to mould to the shape a lot better than Silent Coat would so I am not too worried about post carpeting appearance.
Anything for a little less road noise....

Hi All....regarding silent coat ...when we did our van I used the thicker 3mm (black) but only on the wheel arch, After reading all about sound resonance and sometimes less is more , the 3mm sheets give about 50% extra sound damping...something to consider for the future

ps and allows you to mould to all the contours

How much silent coat is required to do the two rear wheel arches?
Haven't seen anyone post about doing the front arches - can't do or no benefit?

Just done my front arches this morning. Not a lot you can do, mostly they're adjacent to the engine bay (so no point) or suspension is in the way.

Still, I did a layer of silentcoat and 6mm dodo. Will post some pics later.

I'm going to do the cab interior at some point but for now did under the arch covers at the front with 2mm silent coat and 8mm dodo mat.

Plenty of space but not a lot you can cover that will really help cab noise.

I did my rear outer arches last week. The great thing about doing outside is that it doesn't need to be super neat as there is plenty of space for overlapping joints. If I remember (it's been a long week) I used about 2 1/2 sheets per side but I didnt extend quite as far as some have done. 3 would definitely be enough. These were 375 x 250 mm sheets from a bulk pack of 40.
I want as much sound proofing as possible so I covered the inside arch with 6mm dodo mat. The rest of the inside is 12mm.

Thanks. Will see if I can find anyone with a volume pack of 3mm silent coat in stock.

FYI, I only Silent Coated the outside as far out as the Dodo mat shows on my picture above. I then silent coated the remaining section inside as it is hidden behind the panels. This was then covered in 12mm Dodo.
You can obviously double up but I have used so much I had to start being a little more frugal!

Getting a lot of guys telling me theyv'e done the wheel arches on the outside of the vehicle with silentcoat, that's great, but does it make a lot of difference, and is it worth doing?

I've recently bought from these guys.

I think they might actually be the manufacturer of dodo.
When I enquired about the best product for my application the guy was very helpful and had vast knowledge.

I ended up getting the dead mat pro mainly for the acoustic values in the front doors.

He also gave me a 10% discount code for online which is GIVEME10
Placed my order and it arrived next day. I'd certainly buy again for the next project.

I bough tall my stuff from them too. Generally comes the next day with free postage. Can't complain.
