Which eBike?

[
Good analogy :)
It’s a game changer I think. Super easy to install. I’ve set the ‘assistance’ to cut out at 45kmh, but you can set it to whatever you like up to 70kmh I think.
I would recommend going for it without hesitation.
Next job is a way to transport in the van without taking the front wheel out to mount through the axle, also not touch the kitchen units or side panels and without the use of tie down straps either!!

Deaks :)
Could you adapt one of the roof mounting type systems?C01718C7-1649-4011-94EC-A4672CE6C591.jpegC01718C7-1649-4011-94EC-A4672CE6C591.jpeg

I Know the feeling. I've realised that having ordered my Cube I'm going to have trouble transporting it as it's a 29"er and therefore far longer than my current hardtail. My towball mounted Atera Strada DL3 may well be too narrow for it, and even if it is possible to get the weight supported by the rails, it will be difficult to get the straps to give it much stability. Having looked at it I reckon that longer channels could be fitted and these would be supported by the frame of the carrier. I just need to find someone who can bend 3mm aluminium. I wouldn't fancy putting it inside the van and risk scratching my nice shiny furniture or leather!

I fitted a derestrictor device to my Haibike within a week or two of getting it. I still can’t pedal it much over 27-28mph though due to the low gearing but that’s fine, I just like having it so I can get any road sections between tracks over with as soon as poss as I hate cycling on the road.

Right, so I have looked into my co’s cycle2work scheme and it limits me to £2.5k and you can’t add to it. I’m happy to buy one at this cost and maybe sell it on in a year if I find I myself wanting something more. So baring in mind this new limit, what do people recommend?

Ultimately I’m looking for an ebike for roads and cross country, at least for the moment, so I suppose a ‘hybrid‘ eMTB. Any specific model recomendations?

yep, that would be my choice at that price.

Would have been my choice but I went self build instead. Good luck trying to find stock though and I would advise trying to buy local just in case you get any problems with the electrics

Right have found a relatively local store to go to next week - they have haibike in so will take a look. Just need to find a local cube stockist now.

The Cycle to Work Scheme no longer has an upper limit, is it just your company that is imposing the limit?

Yes, unfortunately. Saying that the shop I just spoke to said we could come to an arrangement on ‘topping up’ if I wanted to...

I used a £1000 c2work voucher and bought my Cannondale Topstone Lefty with it, all the shop did was take a fee of £50 from it because that's what they get charged, Retail of the Lefty is £6600

My e-bike got my so fit that I out do the battery range now and bought a gravel bike for longer trips

Bicycles (& eBikes/eMTBs) appear to be in short supply at the moment. I phoned up Leisure Lakes (near Southport) just the other day asking if it was possible to test ride at the moment, and they said they only had 10 eMTBs in stock. They added that, while stock does come in, there is no surplus and they don’t foresee things changing for at least a year.

So I was looking at this Cyrusher. Has anyone any experience of them?

I wouldn’t touch that with a barge pole - never heard of them. A full suss fatbike is unusual enough but an electric one, and with 7 gears? And it’s illegal as it’s speed is ungoverned. And it’s 32kg. 2 months till it breaks and good luck with fixing it

Interesting interview between Vital MTB and Joe Graney the CEO of Santa Cruz bikes explaining why there is such a shortage of bikes at the moment. It’s too long but you can get the gist from the first 10 mins

Those were my initial thoughts as well, but doesn’t answer my question if you have no direct experience of them.
I have read some reasonable reviews of them and I would not be expecting it to be a competitive black-trail bike, but if the combination of fat tyres and (probably cheap & nasty) suspension along with an electric motor make for a fun bike to use, then it might be worth it.

Ta for the video though.

I'm with Cpt Mainwaring on this Shaun.
Take the review with a pinch of salt.
It is illegal, you would need to tax it, MoT it, insure it and register it to use on the roads to be legal.
You'd be better off spending a few hundred quid converting an existing bike and waiting for more eMTBs to become available, in my view.

Once the Insurance industry and government have decided on how to make money out of the E bike revolution things will be more straight forward (read expensive).
