When I was looking to convert a number of professional converters rightly or wrongly said only Reimo or SCA were worth considering.

My convertor only uses Reimo.... quality of material, quality of fit, longevity, etc etc...

I'm sure there are a few others to consider but when shelling out that much money for one, better off with a known good supplier with a proven track record.

Buying cheap doesn't always save money in the long run...

Well after much deliberation I went with a Reimo easyfit for my LWB.

Yes I guess a little 'boring' you may say as it's plainly obvious it's got a chunk of fibreglass bolted on the top. What that means though is no leaks, plenty of headroom, a quality, nicely finished product that will add value to your van.

Being a LWB your options are more limited than with a swb (ie. SCA don't do a 194 equivalent for it, no v-tec in the Reimo etc).

I went for the comfort (sprung) roof bed option, don't think can get anything like that in a Hi-Lo?

Also went easyfit rather than the classic/superflat (or whatever it's called) as it looks a lot neater (especially where the roof meets the front spoiler) inside and out.
Only thing I don't like are the visible fastener on the exterior of the roof.

I guess it boils down to how important the looks are and if you're willing to gamble with possible issues and the complexity of fitting a roof like that.

I'm sure there's loads of hi-lo's without any issues but you don't hear of many Reimo roofs leaking and big installation problems?
There's plenty of T4's driving about with 20ish year old Reimo roofs that are still working - that says it all for me.

You only get one attempt at it!
I went for riemo as didn’t want to loose the headroom inside van and also to not store bedding down deck!

hi,
First post so hi to you all, we just got ourselves a T6 last week and have been to a guy to discuss getting it converted. He seems really good, had some good ideas on design and some of the vans we saw also looked very good.

We've been quoted for a Reimo pop top at £3600 (inc VAT) and i've seen quite a few options at less than this. Does that price seem fair for a Reimo pop top and are they really worth the extra expense over some of the other ones mentioned?

They said they have recently changed to being a Reimo fitter over another brand who they hadn't rated much of late (i don't recall what they were) but wondering if it there are savings to be had for a good quality product if i recommended a different option to him.

That sounds like a very fair price. I'm paying quite a bit more for a Reimo Fast Fit Open Sky version for a LWB T6, sprayed to match the van (Indium Grey) and lining internally to match the finishing. Worth checking what the price includes. I'm no expert, but reading different threads on here about pop tops, Reimo might not be the sleekest, flattest, highest or whatever, but they seem to be recognised for being quality items. However, any roof is only as good as the installer.

Lets put it this way. This forum, and the F/bk groups, are full of people asking what's the cheapest / cheaper option. Generally, these same forums are also full of people asking how they stop their (insert "cheaper" brand name / product - - ) from squeaking / rusting / catching the canvas in the hinges / leaking / failing MoT / bringing up error lights / crazing / generally being a nuisance.

Now have a look and see how many posts there are complaining about Reimo roofs - or other high-end products various. Simples. If you can afford it, and plan on keeping the van for any length of time, get a Reimo. I expect there are other high-end roofs too, but all I can say is we have a Reimo and it's really rather good. As you're in Harrogate, you're also close enough to Brighouse to be able to go and ask Exploria about their views on Reimo. They seem to be one of the "highly respected" converters, and we're certainly pleased with ours. (Hint - phone them - rather than email).

Thanks for the responses

I understand the paying for quality thing but I know that getting the best of the best may not also be necessary to get good quality. Like when people pay for Apple products for example and they are paying top dollar for a loved brand.

If they are a superior quality and will stand the test of time as you say then I'm happy to go with it, unfortunately our budget is tight so we are looking to get some work done later in the year. Initially we were just going to get the windows, carpets and some electrics done at first and use it for a while with a blow up matress but the convertor has suggested that it may be worth getting the pop top done as well while we're at it but obviously that's a significant chunk more. We may just have to say that we'll hold back on getting that done yet and go with our original plan.

I have factory roof rails on my van that can go on the pop top when its fitted, how will that work with the wind out Fiamma, or will that not fit with rails still on? Also need the awning rail fitted to the other side of the van as I have two sliders.
skyline will fit u rails m8 no prob

Hi, can i ask who you got the quote from? I have also been looking and have made my mind to go Reimo, however the prices I have been quoted are £4200 fitted + paint+mattress

What are people's thoughts on Westdubs pop tops? The converter I'm looking to use fits them (I've seen lots of his work, and its all very nice, so keen to use him if the pop top is good).

If your using an amazing converter then your probably be ok. My westdubs roof leaks like a seive because of poor fitting by westdubs themselves. Buy a bellows bungee and chuck the straps away, Mine leaked from the straps and the front scenic clips.
I would never go westdubs again but would buy either a skyline or reimo. A mate has reimo and loves it.

I have just come very close to buying a new conversion with a westdubs pop top for £31000. Thank god it sold before I gained a bit more education. Now the same company is pedalling a conversion for £44000 with the same roof! Decided to self build with a skyline roof.

Hi looking for some advise, wanting to convert my long wheel base T6 starting with a pop top question is which one? Would like a low profile that doesn’t really show and any recommendations on fitters if anyone can help?

Apparently Skyline are coming out with a new pop top called the 'Skylow' which is meant to be Low Profile. Looking forward to checking this out when it comes to market (apparently estimated Oct / Nov this year)

I had a VanMax roof fitted which I love, pretty low and way cheaper than the Hi-Lo, also a guy I know fits hi-lo roof and he actually told me they aren’t worth the money for the quality. 7CA61823-D2B9-4E4D-9D68-3BFD0170B340.jpeg13A170CB-9DF4-49D0-98BD-87DC9FA025B7.jpeg6C181F8F-6C0D-409B-AAAD-D72B23905272.jpegFD17FD61-B7D0-4B88-8842-8EE6637DF63C.jpeg
