Wiring Under Passenger Bench Seat

Hi
I would like to permanently remove the passenger bench seat and not put anything in to replace it so as the only seat in the front is the drivers.

The only thing that is giving me pause is the wiring connections in the seat center frame, will removing the seat trigger error faults or as long as I connect everything back up will I be ok?

Reason for removing the seat is to give more room for my dogs, plus the fact that the only person who ever used the vehicle is myself so the loss of the seat is off little loss. Made a huge difference when I did this in my transit so would like to again if possible?

You can undo two screws and leave everything connected .. just done mine on a double seat to fit a folding mechanisim

Brilliant thanks. I can knock a wooden boxing up for it pretty quickly, so that's excellent news :)

With some careful shaping and twisting you can get it under the flooring but does leave you a big bump to deal with

As I've got to allow for wet dogs, and moving etc on it, I'll make a wooden boxing that I'll just silicone in place. Then if I ever do need to refit the seat it should be an easy job with everything nicely protected until then.

A lump on the floor isn't ideal, but then 3 dogs on a seat isn't great either! Plenty of cushions around it should make it quite comfortable for them and alloys for easy refit

Hi, know this is an older thread but I'm in a similar position. Did you get this done ok Rabbit? I'd like to remove my front passenger seat for similar reasons. Looking under the seat it'd just be a case of connecting the plugs together once removing them from the bracket? Don't want any warning lights.

Also is this something you'd have to inform insurance of does anyone know? I'd check anyway but just curious.

I didn’t do it in the end as without cutting a hole in the bulkhead (which I didn’t want to do) you gain little space wise (I did take the seat out, 6 nuts and not that heavy). There is a reasonable amount of wire play though, some people say there is room to push it under the matting, but personally I would have built a wooden platform to have made a false floor over the wiring and bolt threads.

I took the passenger seat out of my last van and it is 100% insurance notifiable as you are lightning the vehicle. They just asked for pictures and the reason why (I said for getting carpet rolls in), as long as it not because your a boy racer then it made no difference to the premium

Ok thanks for the reply - ours is a camper so it'd be really good to add a bit of space for the dogs at night.

I'll take a look :)

Pretty sure not, it's a camper conversion and they are reclothed. Can't see any cables connecting the actual seats.
