...that this UK specific scam survives in spite of all the documentation from VW and the belt manufacturer.

Need to book mine into Manchester van centre. Interesting to see what they quote me. IIRC when I took the all in with them last year, they said they offer a discount on the cam belts etc.
Hello
For those who know can you please tell me if it's possible to remove the cambelt plastic cover to check the condition of the belt without the need of removing any other components!? Is it on clips or fasteners!?
I'm not familiar with this.
...problem and was also refused the repair on the All In warranty. That was August last year. Got it done at an independent for £650 inc new cambelt (which was only a year old). Guess what… back in the dealer for service today and they say it’s leaking again. WTF. I believe it was a genuine part...
For anyone interested in my progress I managed to negotiate 50% discount on the work instead of original offers 25%.
Saves me around £ 1000 in rounded numbers.
Decided to go ahead and the work will be done sometime during January 2025.
Still a huge chunk of money, which shouldn't be mine to...
...hutch to Cornwall! £2,400 they want as neither is covered by the All-in plan! Mightily hacked off here!!!
They’re also recommending I do the cambelt and water pump while I’m at it! Suggested they check the service record as I had it done two years ago!
Now they say they don’t need to do...
Thank you, seems it's official! No reason for me to get this done now, but will consider it at the 6 year mark (when the van will likely have less than 40k on the clock).
Had a weather window so washed her, then booked her in for a service and mot at Lookers VW Middlesbrough and a cambelt and coolant pump at my local independent the day after.
Finally got through to VW Scunthorpe, £815.61 for cambelt and water pump.
Tried another independent too, £630 with genuine parts, £500 with non-genuine parts.
My T6 went in for service today and cam belt change was expected (5yrs but low mileage). But the garage says VW are now saying 130,000 miles before cambelt change. No timeframe now given. Well that saves me a packet, but one hell of a policy change. Anyone know any more?
The test centre we use (part of a national chain) displays a sign in the reception area explaining the requirement for customers to inform them if a cambelt change is overdue when submitting a vehicle for MoT testing. Obviously an arse-saving exercise.
...I was in exactly your situation, and could determine from the computerised records that the VW service person accessed over the phone when I booked the first service in my ownership, that the cambelt had been changed according to schedule etc. Incredibly valuable if buying a second life vehicle.
