Well, it's EGR time again!
I bought the van nearly 5 years ago at ~99000 miles. I'm sure I saw a receipt for a new EGR' in the paperwork but I can't find it now. Either way, the date of manufacture of the old (aftermarket) EGR is 2018 and the van (Euro 5, 140) was registered in January 2016...
...to the top of the turbo all seem fine
Had pipes off down to the top of the intake they seem dirty but not as bad as some I’ve seen.
Front egrpipe been off seems totally fine.
The rear egrpipe is fine was updated a couple of year ago for the improved version.
I’m running out of time...
Somehow I missed that earlier! I’m almost 100% sure that the new EGR won’t be clogged at 7K miles, IF they renewed it.
Another possibility is that the pipes are fouled with carbon, there are different types of EGR used in Transporters, VW modified some pipes so that they don’t block with carbon...
You would need to remove the EGR and buying a blanking kit for the pipes. Then get it mapped out of ecu.
When my EGR in my trusty works van went for the 3rd time I bit the bullet and had it removed and mapped out.
Vans been great since
Hello i have some problem with my t6 2018 CHXA after replace Egr+cooler and the pipe on the backside. after a Quick drive like 3-6km i get 2 faulty codes
P4020
P0101
What can cause this problem?
you sure its not a split EGRpipe in the engine bay? (final exhaust fuses shouldnt smell very bad due to the cat and dpf)
but the EGRpipe splitting is a very common issue . . . and yours is a 2018 so prime candidate.
I've had mine done on bot 2018 and 2017 vans...
Cleared twice now and comes back almost immediately. Drives fine no stutters and accelerates as normal.
Would removing the front stainless EGRpipe and inspecting give an indication of how ‘sooty’ it is? (No Sweep jokes!)

My rear EGRPipe indeed has split, probably some 3 months ago. Just holding my hand behind it, I could feel a strong warm air blow. Just to make sure it wasn’t air from the cooling fan that I was feeling, I confirmed it by sniffing on my hand, which had strong diesel/exhaust fumes to it. No...
Fuel preference won’t make any difference before or after a fault develops.
It could be caused by one or more of the following.
1. Split or leaking EGR gas circuit, often a cracked pipe at the bellows, will be a strong smell of exhaust gases / soot stains on pipe. If so replace the pipe, there...
I had the same code recently, garage I took the van to reckoned readings didn’t suggest a clogged EGR, on further investigation he found a split in the EGR to exhaust manifold rear pipe which he replaced along with new gaskets. He did show me the part complete with split.
Time will tell but so...
I've just stripped and cleaned the EGR on my van. 2016 T6 104 SWB (euro6) manual. #teamsilver
Some notes:
The steel pipe under the EGR can be bent down about 10mm, just enough to expose the nut behind it (lower left nut as you look from the right), fairly easy to get a deep socket on it then...
Hi all. Having a nightmare. I stripped egr off other day then get the new one from TPS. It doesn't come with the rubber/metal tube that joins the egr to the housing on the block. Mine stuck in old egr and getting it out damaged the rubber. According to TPS you have to buy the whole housing at...
