Did you use your wheels all year round or take them off over the winter.
They say on all year, don't see the point in taking them off but then it does not get taken out on the roads in the winter when there is salt on the roads The van has only just done over 11ooo miles in a little over two years. I can see why it happens the edges are too sharp so the lacquer can easily come off there. If they has broken the edges more I think they would have been ok. If I had realised that they would be like this I would have gone of the Black ones.

Right guys have a quick question.....my standard 16inch original tyres are done so will be upgrading the wheels to 18inch supermetal bullets....after months of deliberation. Anyway, can choose to have size 235/50R18 or 255/45R18. What would be the difference between each ride wise and looks wise?
These are the ones......

Thanks guys

From experience, a higher sidewall tyre will ride better and absorb more irregularities from the road surface. A wider tyre will track along overbanding and white lines more. Low profile tyres have a better slip angle and thus provide a firmer steering speed.

Any use..?

The 45s will look far better if it's lowered. If it isn't lowered the 50's will look better.
(There is actually only a few millimetres difference in diameter anyway)

Supermetel are really nice wheels, and now approved and sold by VW in 20" I assume you ruled out the Trident:whistle:

Anyway, careful with polished wheels, they might look the nicest, but some don't last that long before needing re-furbing. A well reported issue in here and on the internet.

Welcome to the forum of wheel confusion, where everyone and their dog has an opinion.

Your choice of the two common 18" tyre sizes might be governed by your van load capacity.

If you have a T32 you'll be stuck with the 255/45-18. If a lesser load van (T26/T28/T30) then you have the option of using 235/50-18.

Hi, I have Faroad 255/45R18 103XL tyres on my 67 Trendline, is it fair to assume 38 psi all round is ok? They came as only 29 psi which was very squishy and exspensive on mpg.....

I have Wolfrace Eurosport’s with these tyres, really good steering....with correct inflation

Mine’s T28, 38psi all round is fab for feel & mpg don’t know for T32

Had a screw in the shoulder of the NSF tyre (vanco conti`s) which i repaired myself with the tyre knots couple of months ago.

it started leaking the other day and tyre shop wouldn't repair it. . . . . (no repairs on shoulder/side wall) =[

so new tyre needed . . .

vanco conti £179 !!
mid range tyre £ 120 !!
Budget £89 !!

thats about £100 more for these 18" rims compared to the old T5.1 17" rims.

so went for the budget . . . .

ACCELERA RADIAL

anyone had these before?

What mileage are you getting out of these please?

Tyres are the most important part of the vehicle, they transmit all acceleration, braking and corning forces from the vehicle to the road. If your tyre budget only stretches to hedge-finders for 18+ inch alloys, you're probably best off running standard 16s and 17s but with mainstream manufacturers that have proven history.

i drive my Audi A8 and my Caravelle quite hard and use nothing else , they are not hedge finders and people who think that have never used them,
i have been using them for over 8 years superb looks / quality / and price
its always personal choice with tyres , I've used the Top brands and find no difference at all.
a set of 275/35/20 conti's for my A8 was £1000
a set of these cost me £220 it was a no brainer from 8 years ago.

Yes I agree, not hedge finders, though I like the term!
I also have a set of 18” on my focus
When my mrs needs tyres for her a3, she will get them as well!
