2023 French road trip.

We are just back from france, sailed dublin to Cherbourg with Irish ferries, went down to Il de Re, Van never missed a beat, went down via Rennes & Nantes, big mistake as we were travelling on Good Friday, serious traffic , 5 hour journey turned into 7.5 hrs, we came back via Angers, Le Mans, Caen, longer but quicker and a lot less traffic
Good Friday (or any other bank holiday) travelling in France is madness. Take the hit and drive through the night or get up at stupid o’clock and hit the road!

@JOG aye , it didn’t really register with me until too late, lesson learnt

a good web site

it can be very crowded during the holidays
better to book well in advance.
for the trip avoid paris
Rouen-Dreux-Chartes-Blois-Chateauroux etc etc in holiday rhythm

2000km from Calais and back to Calais. Two weeks to complete.

Approximate plan
Calais to Chartres for 1 night.

Chartres to Dordogne for 6 nights (two sites).

Dordogne to west coast for 3 nights.

West Coast to Le Man's for 3 night.

Le Man's to Calais for 2 nights.

All open to change depending on what we like and weather.

Via Michelin app is also great gives you all the Peage and fuel costs. As well as the most efficient route. it also has a lot of information on sites too see.

Yes was watching some YouTube videos last night, couldn't find a decent site close to the town though.
From memory I parked up in a car park, possibly the hospital. Not very glamorous but we were travelling for nearly 8 weeks and it wasn’t the worst.
I seem to remember a good tram system for getting about

I’ve stayed here which was OK. Within walking distance of the town centre.

This is a little bit further out on a bus route but we also walked. We were at the 24 hours and we had bikes.

Only one more sleep till the start of our 2023 road trip. First night near the euro tunnel tomorrow then 2 weeks around France. Weather south (seems most of Europe) is still looking a bit ropey so may need to change original plans and stay further north. Like a kid on Christmas eve :)

We are in Arromanches today (going home tomorrow from Dieppe) and the temp is about 18 and blowing an absolute gale but sunny.
Hope the weather gets back on form as you go south.
Have a good trip.
Try to get fuel at €1.59. There are plenty of places at that price if you hold out. Don’t be caught out paying €1.76 as many places are charging. I’ve not paid more than €1.62
