2023 French road trip.

Just left Dieppe and it was 25 degrees.
We were in Houlgate earlier, which is a lovely seaside town just along the coast. Great beach and beautiful old buildings. Tons of on road free parking in the centre. 30degrees when we left.
Have a great time.

In 4 weeks time we’re off to Eurodisney for 4 nights in the bus and then 10 days at the French Centre Parcs.

I’m going to take the easy route of A26 to Reims and then the A4 to Disney.

Once we’re off the Chunnel, any recommendations for a ‘nice’ service station to stop at for a coffee and a slash?

Finally back on Frence soil. Tunnel absolutely brilliant again. Easy process and train left to the second on time.

Through we would try the aviod tolls as in no great rush but abandoned that after an hour. Nice seeing all the little villages but to frustrating for me so jumped back on the A roads.

Brilliant! Doing that for the first time in July. Are tolls still pay as you go if you need to or is it all via a chip/tag only these days?

I’ve seen a few comments on here that people wait for the bill when they get home but not sure what I have to do yet - still to research it. Any advice appreciated.

They are all Pay as You Go. The tag allows you to go through without stopping. We are just approaching our 9th week of touring Spain and France and so far have avoided tolls and just enjoyed the small villages. You do have to be careful of cameras though. Tolls are easier driving but some can be expensive. If you put your route into Waze it tells you the approx toll cost. We use the option in Waze to toggle routes via tolls on or off.

The west coast had a fantastic cool breeze all the time we were there. It was very pleasant. Benodet down to Il de Re. Inland was sweltering. I don’t do heat very well but the coast was fine, and pretty cool in the evenings for a pleasant beer sat outside a bar.

We’re on our way to Ile de Re. Been chased out of Italy by thunderstorms & mediocre weather (should have stayed at home:rolleyes:) Currently on a site NW of Clermont Ferrand. Having driven through the alps, we’re having a rest for the weekend. Should be on Ile de Re on Monday. Hopefully the weather should improve as we head west.

We stayed at the municipal camp site at St Martin de Re. Site was good. They tried to fob us off showing us 2 pitches which were utter rubbish. So I said they weren’t for us and unless they had anything else we’d leave. Miraculously we got a really nice pitch in the shade on a nice quiet part of the site.
St Martin is a stunning harbour with bars all around the harbour and some lovely little streets etc.
The best beaches are on the other side of the island. There’s good free parking at the beaches too.
We had a day here

Busy beach, has a cool beach bar with food and the water was lovely and warm and nice for swimming. Free parking adjacent to the beach.IMG_4681.jpeg

This is the site I’d picked out. Further up on the western tip. Gets good reviews & is only €17 with the ACSI card.
I found this campsite using the CampingCard ACSI app:Camping La Côte Sauvage - Tohapi | ACSI

Depends if you want somewhere to go in the evening that’s lively or you just want a bbq on the beach type evening. St Martin was buzzing with bars and restaurants all round the harbour.

Thank you - very useful.
