Ad Blue

Hi guys,

Just wondering how many miles you get between top ups on the Ad Blue?

I've had my T6.1 T28 (110) since July 24' I've done 6k miles, yet still no top up warning?

My previous vehicle, transit custom, would only do around 2k before needing a 10L top up!

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

I can't comment on usage as my van is a Euro 5. However, there are several threads on here about Adblue as there are a few little tips and tricks regarding when to top up, how to clear the light and more.
It's worth a good trawl of the forum to get your head around the quirks!

I too have a 6.1 Euro 6. (‘22 plate). As above plenty of other posts. However for context, I clocked 10K last November (pretty much bang on 2 years of owning from new) and only topped up then. I just waited until it gave me a range of 250 miles. I then topped up with 10 litres in one go. I didn’t leave ignition on as some say. Just topped up, turned on, and within 100 yards the level reset no bother.

Just my thoughts for what it’s worth.

Used boggo standard Aldi AB with no issues.

Cheers.

Hey @dannyc81 , was it new in '24? The adblue tanks were bigger on the later 6.1's. Mine is a 2020 with a smaller adblue tank.

5 litres gives me about 2000 miles. No issues when filling, no leaving ignition on, no waiting, it registers as soon as I start the van.

Thanks All,

It's a 2020 6.1.

Just sat in the van now, I've actually done 7k since I acquired the van in July last year, the display is showing as 1600 miles left now. Sounds about right based on whats been said?

I was forever filing the Custom, and it was a pain, so this is a nice surprise!

Thanks again.

Sounds about right. Imopped mine up when I bought it and rhe range was estimated something like 9500 miles, and you're not far off with 7000 + 1600.

I get through around 10L per month which is around 4k miles for me. Seems excessive compared with others T6.1

It will vary significantly dependent upon the type of driving.

I recently filled the Ad Blue tank on my MY23 T6.1 and the range updated to show 16,800 miles. In the van, I predominantly drive on motorways & dual-carriageways.

I expect about town. I say "expect", because VW like to be different for no logical reason.
New to all the adblue stuff and not done enough miles yet but my mate also has a t6.1 and he reckoned it was using more on motorways.. when does the stuff get activated? all the time or at certain intervals??

Typically they use the most at high throttle openings or high sustained engine speeds.

On the motorway I'm keeping well inside the limit a touch under 2000 RPM with barely a whiff of pedal. If your chum is going for it with the faster traffic he'll be pedalling hard and the motor will be running at high speed and he'll be swigging the adblue like Gemma Collins on a liquid McDonalds diet.

Yes he is more than like giving it the beans on the motorway haha..
