AdBlue Discussion and Issues

Aside from VW not fixing their poor EGR design.
Has anybody installed an additional crankcase vapour oil separator between the PCV and induction to remove the majority of oil vapour before it gets burnt in the engine and causes more soot and EGR blockage?
I have been running one on an old A4 TDI for about 6 years now due to excessive oil carry over in the blow by gases, it removes some nasty sludge instead of putting it back through the induction causing more soot. Note that this a 20 year old engine and it’s worn as to be expected.
My 2016 MY 180ps Euro5 doesn’t appear to consume any oil, not sure if that’s the same with the Euro6 models?
Good morning this is the kind of engineering that VW needs too take note about There are some wonderful mechanics out there that fix and resolve issues big companies don’t seem too
my friend was similar he took on cars other garages failed too sort out and was superb successful at
finding the problem ,so yes VW have. Got the flushing machine too sort the EGRissue
but don’t want too find or re design a new unit too fix this problem with the new T6 engines
I used too restore vintage classic cars as my hobby but now been disabled
I can’t get stuck in like I want too hence can’t do with blockages every 6-8000 miles
they keep saying it’s due too short runs .?? But van gets good runs every day and still blocks
my argument with VW is they never said at point of sale YOU MUST DO AT LEAST 15-20 miles in one
continuous run every day or you will have issues .??
so reluctantly I’m offering My Black Pearl KOMBI up for grabs
anyone after a nice private owned well cared for van give me a message
we’ll done with the T4 there’s nothing wrong with vehicles with few years under there wheels it’s all about how you look after it that’s important I run a 75 year old ford as my daily driver lol
thanks again VW guys xxx Royboy

I'm having the same issues. I went to VW today and was told that my warranty was void as I have had the engine remapped and I would need to pay for the update £105 plus VAT and would lose the remap.

Does that sound right?

Dealer is being a d**k though .
It's a known fault & an update for this , did you buy it from them ?

Is it worth trying the dealer you bought it from & not telling them about map ?

Has anybody disconnected the hose from the PCV discharge and checked how much oil mist is not being removed? I’m no expert of EGRs but if any gas tube cooler is clogging it’s capacity is either too small or tubing too small for the medIum being cooled.
There’s only two sources of carbon in this case providing engine and turbo seals are not damaged.
1. Oil mist carry over from the PCV to the induction.
2. Unburnt fuel, It it possible that there is an issue with incorrect fuelling in certain conditions?

My engine management light came on beginning of December. Stayed on for a few days before going out again.
Couple of weeks later came on again and stayed on. My ad-blue range also went from 5000 miles range to 650 miles. Booked in to dealership for assessment. Got back van same day with 'ad-blue adaptions' carried out under warranty. Eng management light off and ad-blue range back at 5000 miles.
150tdi with 6ok miles

Hello- I am just having the same issues.

2018 T6 Kombi 150 with DSG about 27k

THen 10 days ago- just on motorway- warning light for exhaust- VW Assist - regen plus advised to go to garage for software update and free AdBlue.

200m later- same warning light VW Assist / AA called 31103

Went to garage- software update plus letter for 8 top ups Adblue (adblue topped up with 5L that day by me) TPI 2056401

200m later- adblue level from 5000m to 650m. Adblue warning light plus spanner sign- no Adblue volume- VW Assist 'Adblue sensor error') Driving breakdown

Now back at VW van centre (less than 1 week later)- hire car awaited.

Any suggestions?

What should I expect to happen next? I am not happy that I have had 2 trips to the garage and 3 call outs in 1 and a half weeks with the same issues which appear to be inherent defects in the van. It has at least 1yrs warranty left. but the difficulty will be losing confidence in actually driving the thing.

Will the Van center sort it out- these problems seem to be common judging by the length of this thread?

Or will I have a never ending circle of toing and froing?

At what point can I reasonably expect something else to happen (i.e. I have ought goods which do not appear to have a life expectancy reasonably within expectations).

The biggest issue with adblue it can crystallise in the tank and on the sensors...so they would I hope clean out the system and refill....what I’ve found it’s best not to let the tank run down too low as it will splash up the sides

Experienced same problem for the first time this week. Driving along motorway when ADBLUE ERROR message displayed and the range dropped from 3500 to 650 mile warning. After driving another 30 minutes the range reverted back to 3500, but I have been left with the orange fault illuminated near to the 6 o'clock position on the display. My vehicle is a March 17 T6, with the warranty expiring 4 weeks ago (slightly extended due to Covid). I have booked my van into the VW West Yorkshire van centre for next week and have been notified this will be as a retail customer unless VW instruct them to deal with it under as goodwill. My previous dealings with VW don't fill me with great hope and any additional advice to point the technicians in the right direction would help. i.e Is there a known update for VW T6 102 EURO (MARCH 17) vans ? or am I likely to be in for the long haul legal battle to resolve.

If you have a Carista or similar you can read the code. Don’t reset the code if you want VW to check it over.

Personally for me, I’d cancel the error and see if it comes back, but this would mean that any future fault would be further out of warranty.

I had an ad blue fault on mine and it, and I managed to get it to clear the weekend before it was due at VW so cancelled the appointment and went away for the day I’d booked off work to sort it!

It was September last year. I overfilled it slightly and caused the error. Drained some out and drove it and it recalibrated. Had another random error in May after filling with some Adblue that had been sitting for a while and may have crystallised slightly. Cleaned the injector in the exhaust, drove about 50 miles and it cleared. The error’s not come back. That was about 1000 miles ago or so.
