you can run a 225/65R17 BFG ko2 on a standard rim, I've been running the ko2 for the last 40,000km, speedo is spot on my van and the 225/65 fits in the spare tire well
Thanks for the reply. One thing, you said r17, but I'll be using 16"s. Would I still use the 65 or would the 70 work?
I'm going loopy trying to decide on a wheel/tyre setup!
For the time being, and as we've got a few camping trips booked, I've decided to just put some chunky tyres on my oem 16" steels.
Would a 235/70/16 be too much on a standard height t30 6.1? If so, what would be recommended?
I did want the Pirelli Scorpions but I can't see them in 16", so I think I'm going for the BFG's.
Sorry, last post was for you.My new van has come with Devonport and 215/65r17 tyres which I would like to upgrade to all terrain tyres for looks and function and also want to fill the wheel arches. I love the look of BFGs but reviews don't seem to rate them highly in ice. Michelin Agilis Crossclimates are rated better for everything but don't look so good. I've seen the tyre comparison site but if I change tyre size do I have to change wheels? If the rim size is the same can I just powder coat the ones I've got and put any 17" tyre on them? My head hurts trying to figure it out and would be grateful for any advice. Thanks very muchView attachment 106823
A few more of the Fuel Zephyr & Pirelli Scorpion AT+ combo.
17x8.5 ET34
235/65R17
Standard springs
The wheels will be fine.
I just fitted these Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus 235/65/17
Thank you but can't view attachment. Could you possibly reattach?Sorry, last post was for you.
Agreed I'm sure I posted these earlier in the thread. Fuel have loads of awesome wheels. Just not in 5x120.View attachment 107369
I think a set of these would look the dogs if available in 5X120
Hi Loz, Were you able to put the same size tyre on the spare? Did it store ok? Thanks very much
I didn't bother, I kept one of the 17s to use like you would with a space saver.Hi Loz, Were you able to put the same size tyre on the spare? Did it store ok? Thanks very much
Hi Arrow did you put the same tyre on your spare? Thanks very much
Na, didn't bother. I figured if I need to replace one of them I must have been hit by a meteor so probably my least worry haha. But in all seriousness, If I do get one I'll just put a matching circumference road tyre on the spare and deflate it enough to fit the cradle. I carry a decent 12v pump anyway.Hi Arrow did you put the same tyre on your spare? Thanks very much
I wonder if it had mud tyres on, most AT tyres now aren't that noisy.A "Swamper" cruised past me the other day, I looked across, gave him the nod and he carried on his way. Nothing to see here, carry on, but NO! I heard him before I saw him, and I could barely hear Pop Master over the racket and whine of his tyres. A couple of hundred yards ahead of me, and I could still hear him. I don't really get the whole "scene" thing, but appreciate a nice van when done with a bit of style and taste, but that thing must be hell to drive and sit in. It looked ready for the Paris Dakar, but we where on the A19 just south of Boro'.
I don't get.

The increase in size by 4.8% corrected my miles per hour. The tech at VW said to me they find this is the case for many.BFGs Ko2 great Tyre i love em but my speedos out by 4 mph slower Comparing to the SAT NAV speed on a 16 rim but was also out on the standard tyre a bit to
They are a larger tyre, is yours an Exec (these are 20mm lower than an SE )?
I think you'll probably get away without spacers on the wheels; but for me I'd fit them anyway 25mm on each corner, they look so much better and it creates space on maximum compression of the suspension; and space on maximum steering lock.
If you don't fit spacers, I don't think you'll suffer more than an occasional rubbing sound of the tyre on the plastic wheel arch liner.
If you choose spacers look for TUV approved imo; HR spacers are probably the rolls-royces choice.
To be safe you should consider mentioning it to your insurers, you could tell them you need them for off-road and winter use.
Never heard of anybody having warrantee issues with oversized tyres.

Have you consider the above?
They have 3pmsn designation so they are certified for winter use, the BFG KO2 don't have this rating.
We have run nearly every BFG/GG/Cooper AT tyres on our Double cabs over the years. This is our new favourite AT tyre, much better road manners than most; full winter rating/all-season; last along time; and on a 4wd tons of off roads grip.
102 load rating so fine for Vels (not T32's)
