B-pillar swivel table

The swivel base for my swing out table is fixed there - fitted by converter so can’t say how long the fixings are

This might help - Swing Out Table How to - VW T4 Forum - VW T5 Forum

I'd appreciate an update as I'm planning to do the same to mount a fire extinguisher.
Wow that takes me back, first time I've been on the old forum in years! Cracking detailed post from Glitch, wonder if he's on here now?

Given my purpose, I've had a rethink and decided not to drill at all now and I'm going to epoxy hooks to that surface so I can't be any further help I'm afraid, but thanks for the link

Chill out lad, I used 4mm self tapping wing screws 40mm long and it's solid

Aware this is an old thread but I’m about to screw my Chippys workshop table leg bracket into my B pillar and just wanted to check what model Transporter you have?

I’ve got a T5.1 and was planning on using self tapping screws, probably 2x25mm for the right side (where I believe it’s only single skin) and 2x30 for the left side where I’ve read it’s double skinned.

Let me know if anyone else has fixed one to a T5.1 with self tappers and what size you went for. Definitely one of the more nerve-racking mods screwing into the metal work!

For those who have fitted one of these brackets before how far from the bottom of the b pillar have you placed it? Or did you just fit as high up as you could? Will be fitting mine sometime this weekend

I fitted the Chippy's clamp yesterday, using M6 Rivnuts, (needs a 9mm hole drilled). You can see the position I've mounted it in the photo. I don't think it's ultra-critical - I just Googled around for pics of other people's first. The rivnut tool from eBay came with 10 M6 rivnuts. There does seem to be around 60mm space behind the holes, so not too much to worry about. I'm using the Reimo table leg that I also use with my main table which is stored in the sliding door. Either table can then fit on the other Chippy's clamp mounted under the back seat. I made my own small table from an old one I cut down, routed and edged. (Excuse to buy a new router!) It has an M10 fixing which is a shopfitting accessory. All stable enough for me to operate my laptop on from the passenger seat or the rear seats. It also swings out of the van to act as the all-important drinks table - To be road tested at the Lime Burners Inn/Campsite this Sun-Tue!

@Mccoatup thanks for this. Hadn’t thought of using rivnuts (already have a tool and fixings for this). My clamp and leg (From Slidepods) were supplied with self tapers. May try these first, knowing I can use Rivnuts if it’s not secure Enough

Think this will be my next job. Whats the best quality leg to get? I assume the leg stays swung round and stowed behind the passenger seat when not in use?

Ordered mine from Slidepods but I believe the leg and brackets are Dometic. The leg can be stowed behind the passenger seat but it doesn’t sit flush due to how far back it needs to be. - I may just remove mine when in transit. I wanted to fit my bracket higher on the B pillar but couldn’t as had to avoid the switch for LEDs. Nervous about drilling the holes so only gone with self tapers for now. If it’s not secure enough I’ll fit rivnuts later

Just ordered from chippys workshop, rectangular top so hopefully sturdy enough for a plate of curry and a beer or the laptop!

Looks, thanks.

Anyone fitted one of these with a double front passenger seat?
I've got a double with the vankraft bracket and I think the leg (when in the stowed/travelling position) would foul the seat back? Also got light switches on the b pillar plastic as above, so it can't be mounted too high.

Going to add a swing out table for passenger to use when van closed up, and for all to use when it's nice etc

There's two types I've seen but in the best Harry Hill fashion, which one is best value

Kirivans at £65

Or just kampers for £95

I prefer the look of the second one but is it worth 50% more because of any additional usability?

Fiiiiioghtttt!

I got the Kiravans one as it’s look more sturdy and I wanted to be able to choose the table top I wanted. Although I haven’t got one yet.

I’m thinking of fitting a swivel table to the passenger side B pillar. I have a single passenger seat on a swivel base. I’m after a little guidance please.
I’m going for a Chippys Workshop swivel kit with a round table top questions are:
a) Best table size (400mm or 500mm)?
b) I see people use rivnuts into the pillar. If I release/remove the fuel filler surround can the inside of the post be accessed to allow use of nuts and bolts instead?
c) What are the best fixings/size for attaching the table top to the bracket?

Any help much appreciated.
