B-pillar swivel table

I’m thinking of fitting a swivel table to the passenger side B pillar. I have a single passenger seat on a swivel base. I’m after a little guidance please.
I’m going for a Chippys Workshop swivel kit with a round table top questions are:
a) Best table size (400mm or 500mm)?
b) I see people use rivnuts into the pillar. If I release/remove the fuel filler surround can the inside of the post be accessed to allow use of nuts and bolts instead?
c) What are the best fixings/size for attaching the table top to the bracket?

Any help much appreciated.

I have a Clearcut Conversions egg shape table top, not sure on actual size, 600mm long maybe, but big enough.

Whilst the spacers work fine it would be better if the leg had a slight bend in it. Specifically backward just above the lower mounting bracket. Only a small bend but sufficient to move the leg top horizontal part about 60mm backwards (about 5 degrees I think). The spacers could then be dispensed with and the table top would be horizontal in all positions! Obviously if more seat clearance is required the bend could be greater. Has anybody tried this or is it possible?

@Iany1954 I have the same kit from Chippy.. Been putting off due to the drilling through the B-pillar. Do you mind a bit more detailed guide of what you did? Thanks..

Hi, try this!

I Initially removed the fuel/adblue filler surround to see inside (let it hang on the overflow pipe, don’t detach it!). There is at least 60mm clearance behind. Find the correct position and use the bracket as a template (I removed the carpet beneath the bracket area to make installation easier). First drill 4 pilot holes (3mm) but make sure the drill can go no deeper than 60mm (I used a collar on the bit). The outer holes (nearest door) need to pass through 2 metal skins about 10mm apart. Ensure that both are drilled through. I used 5mm rivnuts which required 7mm holes and are 13mm long. Again, drill the holes using the pilots but not exceeding 60mm deep and again going through the second skin.

For the rivnuts I purchased an installation tool from eBay (about £11, it’s just a hardened bolt, spacer and m8 nut - M5 Engineer Heavy Duty High Tensile (12.9) Rivnut Insert Tool Nutsert ** | eBay). This ensured the rivnuts were correctly seated. I was able to view one through the filler hole and check correct rivnut install. For fixing I used stainless M5 countersunk socket heads (2 x 25mm, 2 x 35mm). The spacers were 8mm that I had lying around and seem to do the job.

Hope this helps!

That's exactly the info I was after.. Thanks very much

Anyone know of a good black B pillar table leg?

Also, i'm surprised someone had thought about making a table leg the bolts to the floor using the Bench two inner vehicle mounting points that are not used with a captain seat. This woudl be a near perfect center floor mounted location...

The guys at Ovano are really close to releasing their table leg which I know is black. They’ve designed it from the ground up and aimed to fix a lot of the niggles that many of the current legs have. Keep an eye on their Instagram.

when we go away in our kombi, we remove the single seat, we have the swivel front seats, has anyone made a table that could be used in this situation.
Removing the double seat as well as the single is a bit of a mission for me so tend to leave in place.

Just fitted my B pillar table in my latest van.

Used m5 rivnuts with the special insertion tool linked above and m5 countersunk hex head bolts.
I’ve got the same table set up but with M6 fixings. I also added additional leg stability due to the table top “instability”
There’s a rotary fitting between the leg and table top too.
