Hi all about to start my barn door to tailgate swap, can anyone confirm the routing of the pipe/hose supply from washer bottle to tailgate for the rear wash wipe..I can see its part of the tailgate loom then connects to rest of the feed pipe which will route with the main wiring loom along left hand of roof towards front of the van.

How does it get from the roof a pillar area into the engine bay please ?

I want it to look as factory fitted as possible !
Tia
I can't help much with this as i de-wipered my tailgate. You may be able to find the route using parts catalogs, if you go on lllparts.co.uk you can search the vw parts books and see if that helps.

Hi guys, firstly I wish I had read more than the first few pages of this thread before I went ahead of the conversion! Due to the peeps having the stress cracks. Everything else has gone smoothly.

So my model is a T6.1 and just wanting to know if I’ve missed something; with the wiring I just hooked up the old barn door loom to the tailgate and everything worked. Only thing I had to do is reverse the polarity going to the unlock solenoid. The boot release from the barn even worked when there wasn’t one on the tailgate loom. So is the T6.1 different because I thought I was going to have to run cables back to the BCM?

Only annoyance left are the LED number plate lights are throwing an error and the I need to change the struts. Hoping as has been discussed the T5 ones will be long enough!

Picture for illustration purposes:

Bit easier on the 6.1 wiring wise, as you have seen. You will probably need to change some coding in the bcm to tell it the number plate lights are now led. The adaptation options on the 6.1 are a lot more complex than the 6.

Thanks for your input Hoopdub good tip about LLL parts books, I bought some bits off them for the swap !

Hi again all,

I have converted from barn door to tailgate, when I turn ignition on to start van the first thing that happens pretty much is the central locking unlocks. I read that I need to connect one of the existing barn door wires that are now redundant back to earth to stop this happening..I read it in a thread somewhere but can't for the life of me find it again ! It's presumably one of the 3 wires that used to run to the old barn door lock !
Can anyone help...ta

Post 4 mentions earthing one of the wires
Also post 48 is how I done it

Hi Phillh,

Thanks for the reply !

I made up a plug in loom as per post #4 from t17o tailgate plug to t17c original barn door connector so didn’t need to destroy the original barn door harness.

Connections.
The tailgate has it's own harness with a 17pin connector joining it to the van.
1 - Lock - From Pin14 on the tailgate 17pin connector to Pin10 on the black plug of the BCM.
2 - Switch - From Pin13 on the tailgate 17pin connector to Pin23 on the black plug of the BCM. (If you want any additional switches to open the tailgate, just add another switch in parallel earthing Pin23 from the BCM)
3 - The tailgate needs an earth. Pin 15 needs connecting to the earth point down the D-Pillar near the rear light.

Pin 10 from t17o an earth I have connected.. i do have interior light function and door position function working I think from this earth

Pin 15 from t17o is the larger earth wire needed for the number plate lights, and high level brake which I have working happily.

New wires from t17o to bcm for tailgate locking and switch operation I haven't run yet or indeed gotten into any coding yet.

What I can’t find is where to connect the old barn door wires from t17c Pins 11, 13 14 and 15 which are all to do with original barn door locks and are all left un connected at the moment, i think these hold the key to my central locking unlock as soon as I turn ignition on ?

Thanks for any input !

Pin 11 13 and 14 from barn door T17c you can just tape up and leave. Pin 15 from barn door T17c needs to be connected to Tailgate loom T17o/10.

Hi Hoopdub, Thanks again for your input thats great here's where I'm at with the wiring, I did already connect pin 15 T17c to pin 10 T17o I sent this to Ads too

T17c Original van side 17 pin connector with existing wiring colours and pinouts and where I connected them.

Pin 1-6 empty.
Pin 7 Grey & Blue.................to pin7 t17o.... number plate light
Pin 8 Black & Red................to pin 8 t17o.....brake light
Pin 9 Brown & Blue...............to pin 9 t17o...think this is door contact switch to show on dash if tailgate open
Pin 10 Brown.........................to D pillar earth
Pin 11 Blue + Green
Pin 12 empty
Pin 13 Purple
Pin 14 Brown + Yellow
Pin 15 Brown + Black...........to pin 10 t17o.....think this is for interior light to work on door open
Pin 16 empty
Pin 17 empty

T17o new tailgate 17 pin connector

Pin 1 empty
Pin 2 empty......................will wire to extra internal tailgate release switch for illumination only not operation
Pin 3 rear wiper.................yet to do
Pin 4 rear wiper..................yet to do
Pin 5 empty
Pin 6 rear wiper..................yet to do
Pin 7 number plate light ....from pin 7 t17c
Pin 8 brake light..................from pin 8 t17c
Pin 9 door contact switch....from pin 9t17c
Pin 10 interior light to illuminate light when door open...from pin 15 t17c
Pin 11 empty
Pin 12 empty
Pin 13 outer door handle switch to open tailgate................. yet to do wire but will go to bcm pin 23
Pin 14 Lock............................................................................yet to wire but will go bcm pin 10
Pin 15 Earth....................Thicker brown Earth to D pillar
Pin 16 HRW.......................yet to do
Pin 17 HRW.......................yet to do

I haven't run the 2 extra wires to the bcm yet, or indeed got into coding yet only had the van 2 weeks and the tailgate about 6 days so very pleased with progress so far as the van is perfectly usable apart from having to open from inside.

Ahh, in that case it will be like this until you complete the wiring and the coding. The van doesn't like being in between

Don't know if this is visible but heres a sheet i used when doing my one.

Great thank you, I had a message back from Ads who said exactly the same, once its all wired I can start coding and troubleshooting in anger, I am a bit stuck now for time to actually do that, but all your inputs are invaluable and appreciated for when I can. I want it to ultimately behave like it came out of the factory with it fitted !
Cheers !!!

Heres how it looked as I hung it for the first time with the old barn door bumper on !

Ps..great spreadsheet skills HoopDub !
