For any write operations I'd highly recommend sticking to something like VCDS (or OBDEleven in a pinch).

Out of curiosity, why are you wanting to do a forced regen?

I do a mix of driving, the T6 is my only vehicle and I now work from home alot so my day to day journeys are shortish then once or twice a week I do a long commute. Its sods law the van decides to do a regen as im approaching the end of the longer journery and doesnt finish. I have been using the vag dpf app and carista to keep and eye on the soot level and if its going to to a regen anyway ill start it a little earlier with carista on the long journey so it can finish before im home rather than having to shovel fuel through next time to finish the regen.
Carista subscription is fine but if i continue over 10 years or so I want to keep the van it will amount to a large sum of money! Hence looking for somthing else to trigger the regen so it can complete in one go.
Or is not a good idea?

A forced regen is never a good idea. It should always be a last resort. On many ECU SW versions it won't let you start one until soot content is way beyond the field threshold.

So you think I would be better off just to leave it even if it means it wont finish?

Indeed. It'll start again on the next trip out.
Surely if the regen doesn’t finish the fans will stay on until the regen is finished? Is this the case or am I missing something?

That's not the case, no. If a regen is interrupted, the fans will continue to run for a few minutes to cool the vehicle down. The regen will restart on the next journey.

@jimc91 where did you find the DPF regen button, is this in the app of @IWMTom or within Carista?
I’ve never done a forced regen, Carista has this function I believe. Using IWMTom app I could see my van was due to regen and I just made sure it was finished as I got to my destination. The app is really handy to see when a regen is due

Thanks for this info @IWMTom i always thought the fans were the regen continuing. Don’t know why I thought this though.

No problem!

The best advice is to always try and let the regen complete after it starts. Stopping mid regen can contribute to faster than average accumulation of oil ash.

Avoid forced regens. They are not healthy.

Thanks pal, where is this button, I can’t see it anywhere and like you it would be handy to be able to schedule when one takes place as I also do quite a few short journeys in the week with longer journeys on the weekend.

The beauty of the IWM app is that when you hear/feel the van doing a regen you can see from the app the level of soot falling in which case you can either keep driving round the block or sit with the engine running to avoid switching off mid regen. I have only seen the forced regen button in Carista somewhere. I tend to do two or three short journeys a week and one long one so I’m using the app to try and build a picture of how often its happening

@IWMTom , I have a 2017 Shuttle (150) with CFXA engine code, currently using Group 3 on your app, but a few oddities with mileage, distance since last regen and soot levels. Could you add me to your Beta testing please?

Hi folks,

If you've been using the Beta via TestFlight, the latest version has now been pushed to the live App Store and you'll need to fetch it from there instead. I have expired the Beta accordingly.

Thank you for all of your testing, it is greatly appreciated. If anyone has further feedback, please keep continuing to supply it; I'm always happy to improve the app!

Hi Tom, I have a CXHA engine and I'm using group 3, is that correct? I had an odd value for miles since regen, but I think the time since regen looks OK and the other values seem to be of the right order. Having updated the app today the miles since regen is still strange. Screenshots attached, updated version is first. Both taken today. I don't have hyperdrive fitted, honest! Given the miles travelled in the top section the numbers look as though they are OK, but with the decimal point in the wrong place.

Am I doing something wrong?
