Hi all hillside birchover owners.

I’ve asked the question of hillside to no great solution. Two queries masquerading as one.

Barrel door has a wheel that is damaging floor.

Anyone replaced?

Otherwise, anyone come up with a solution for a mat/ carpet in hab space? Not sure how I’d do as would maybe need a cut out for swing of barrel door, make sense?

Give these guys a sketch of a mat and they will make it to size for you Contact Us
They might even be able to integrate a thin rubber sheet in the quadrant where the door runs

It’s a door that covers the fridge. Deep enough for jars of coffee etc. lots of extra storage, quite a clean design, swings open, hinged at the front so accessible when sat in back cooking up a storm etc.

Thanks Chris , have seen them but I didn't know there was a name for them
I suppose you'd need to remove the hardware and see what kit is used and then try to source a replacement.
Birchover not very forthcoming with the details then ?

I believe a few have had problems with them dropping due to the weight you can put in the shelves; this then causes the wheel to damage the floor as the door is opened and shut. I’ve never loaded the door heavily for this reason.
Doesn’t the door just lift off? Not at my van but I thought you could unclip the door catch, open slightly and then just lift it off the hinges. If you can do this then you could put a thin washer or two on the fixed hinge pin of the cabinet, not the door, to raise it up so it no longer contacts the floor. Would be a bit of trial and error, but an easy way to adjust. You could then inspect the wheel to see if a bit of rubbish or debris has got stuck in it, which might also be causing the issue.

They simply responded we use different wheels now.

I’ve only had one issue on my Hillside, which was a cosmetic fault with the SCA pop top struts.
Hillside dealt with it eventually and sent me new struts, but it took a lot of prompting and reminding before they did so.
(Just checked and it was a 5 month email exchange from initial contact to the parts being sent.)

The previous owner of mine had removed the door, for that reason. I contacted Hillside to see if I could buy a replacement but they simply said we don’t make that version anymore. I think it probably looks a lot tidier with it in place, plus extra storage, but I’ll happily live without it if it damages the floor.

I like the idea someone mentioned of fat Bob creating a rubber thin underlay type protection incorporated into a rear hab space carpet best of all worlds maybe

Have you taken the door off @Chris1983 to see what’s fitted?
Once you see what’s there, you might be able to source a replacement or alternative.
A picture often helps.

There's masses of hardware fittings available so I'm sure we could come up with a suitable alternative between us if you can get the old one off and we can see what it looks like .

Just went to van and did mine to see. Opened 90degrees and just lifted it straight off. Photo of mine from a 2023 model. Wheel doesn’t touch the floor, There’s quite a bit of clearance on mine. IMG_1028.jpegIMG_1030.jpeg
