Birchover barrel door

As much for the birchover folk, got another thread going re: electrics but wondered if anyone else’s two rear spot lights are wired into starter battery set up somehow?

I’ve got an auto electric guy on case but find it odd if this was done on conversion.

Essentially with LB isolated, two rear spots still come on. Not sure if from
Starter or residual from dc to dc or what not, as out of my depth. Just fact finding before guy comes back next week.

Do you mean the two touch-operated downlighters mounted in the rear roof panel?

If they are powered from the starter battery, which is a distinct possibility as they aren’t shown in the out-of-date Hillside electrical schematic still supplied with their recent conversions (the document is dated 2015), then it may be because Hillside used the original interior light feed from the VW van to power them. I guess you can check this by pulling the appropriate interior light fuse to confirm this.

Yeah, others have suggested this. Is this a problem? Will this account for some odd voltage numbers across my Victron MPPT/ DC to DC and Shunt? I am quite the novice but have an auto electrician coming to look at this next week so am trying to have as much info as possible to avoid him stripping all electrics out

This is thread if in the slight bit interested in context.

Thanks all for thoughts

If, as I suspect, these lights are fed from the vehicle battery via the rear interior light circuit, then by removing the appropriate fuse, you should be able to isolate these lights. Then compare the voltages across your Victron components and see if there are any differences from your previous readings.

If you need to access the rear of the lights, if you haven’t already discovered, you can do this by removing the rear panel from the storage void directly above the lights. Unfortunately, you’ll need to raise the pop-top and lift up the bed base to do this but with the sub-zero weather we’ve got at the moment it probably isn’t a good idea.

I’ve seen a few reports of this failure on the Hillside Owners Group FB page over the last couple of years. Unfortunately, many folks seem to leave it until the flooring gets noticeably marked before seeking a solution. As soon as I got my Birchover I covered the habitation area floor with a commercial grade corded carpet my logic being that replacing a carpet would be far easier than having to repair the factory-fitted laminate flooring.

Having seen @Chris1983‘s image of the underside of the barrel door, it looks like there’s enough room and a decent base for a suitable roller. Doing a quick online search something like these 22mm pvc castors might be a solution.
Just for info, replaced with one of these (rubber) and needed a few shims to get level. Seems to have worked a treat, hopefully lasts well! Thanks all for input/ guidance/ ideas

Chris, any chance you could post a link to the exact roller you used as it may be helpful to other Birchover owners?
