Brake disc and pad upgrade options

I need to change the pads on my van soon. When Bognor motors serviced the van they said there was 30% life left and that was 6months ago.

Searching on EuroCarParts with a MID60 discount code, the rear pads are £17.26 a set inc new wear sensors. Thats less than a set of normal pads for a mountain bike. Although they are cheap, I think I'll get a set of OE pads so I can be assured of the quality and not squeel.

Has anyone tried these cheap pads?

I’ve used cheap pads on an Audi once and wasn’t impressed. Bought genuine Audi parts and it felt much more sure footed under braking.

use Brembo much less brake dust , and those at that price will be ika i think , leave them alone

Hi,

has anyone fitted aftermarket (drilled/grooved etc) discs to a T32 4motion? i need to change mine in the next couple months so wondered what options there were over the standard VW ones. Any links would be handy.

Also how easy to change over yourself or is it recommended to get garage to do this?

Thanks

I'm on my 4th set of front discs and 2nd set of rears. I went through a few different manufactures for the fronts, but nothing felt like the original factory set until I used my latest Brembo fronts from EuroCarparts. These have far out-performed Pagid and EBC. I have a tendency to warp front discs faster than wearing them out, but the current Brembos are outlasting all my previous stuff, and as close to factory as I can get.

As for doing the job yourself, it's not difficult with the right kit, but you will need a piston wind back tool for the rears.

Dependant how big your budget is, the REVO/Alcon complete front setup is awesome. We run them on our 4Motion demo and they have been phenomenal in all situations.

If you intend to work on the van yourself you'll need a multi spline bit set for most tasks you do. They also have non standard bolt head sizes so don't be surprised if you suddenly find the need for a 16mm socket. Loz has a guide for the rear in the VIP section which I'm pretty sure lists the tools required.

ps - I speak from experience here - I was doing a rear disc change on a Yeti and suddenly found I needed the multi spline set to remove the caliper carrier.

Ah yes, and a 9mm long reach allen key socket.

ah FFS, is anything ever just straight forward on these vans?

- Sounds good, but probably more than i'd need to be fair, and probably outwith my capabilities to fit!

I looked into upgrading my rotors, there are the part numbers i got from DBA for my T6, i have the bigger disc's on the front.

Front rotors are 340mm diameter, part is DBA2240S T2 street slotted

Rear rotors are 294mm diameter, part is DBA2247S T2 street slotted.

Combined with a good brake pad, these should provide better braking.

Look like this. I think for the transporter you just need the M10 version (they're also called XZN spline) to remove the chamfered head fitting that holds the disc to the hub, but invest in a set as they come in handy if you're into working on your own vehicles.

edit - the 10mm you need is not included in that set I linked to.

Can anyone recommend a brand of rear brake disc that wont corrode to bits in 3-4 years like mine have?
Or is OEM still my best option?
Mine have seen better days and MOT soon.

Just for clarity ......I've found a real good price on rear Brembo pad set.
Can someone confirm that all rear discs and pads are the same on all vans as listed in Dellmassive's post and Brembo pad part number P85083 fits.
It comes with new retaining shims and bolts.
