Dash Camera (Front and Rear) Autovox V5pro

Had a quote from a decent local company for £200 for fitting, which I suspect would be a good investment
The most dificult part is getting the camera feed from the rear to front cab. Rear ceiling out, nearside A pillar and probably the headlining trim in the cab near the bulkhead. TBH £200 does seem like a decent price as I probably spent at least 4 hours in total, probably more, doing mine.

I contacted Auto-vox and got a quick reply. They're offering to send me bracket #67 - does that sound right to those who've fitted it?

Just an update for anyone who might be in the same boat as me in future. If you don't have a mirror as standard then you don't need to request any additional brackets from Autovox. The adapters they include with the camera will do just fine.

On a side note, if anyone with a mirror needs bracket #67 I have one I'm happy to give away for free to save you waiting for one to be shipped from China!

Hi @Howzat @tomosllyr I’m just about to order the V5 pro rear view camera mirror dashcam package. Having practiced fishing a wire from from to back I’m now pretty comfortable that I’ll be able to do a DIY installation.

Just wondered if there are any downsides now you’ve had yours a while?

Is it possible to get the gps-fed speedo reading over the top of the live rear view image - or only when it’s off and acting as a “standard” mirror?

Did you fit camera high up, or at the number plate/back door handle? Any issues with using it as both a rear view mirror view AND a reversing camera when needed - or does it end up being a bit of a compromise of both? Ie if positioned low for a reversing camera, the rear view mirror image is too low by default? And if mounted high up, rear view mirror image is good but the reversing camera angle is sub optimal?

Any real world feedback greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

I have had one on my van for a year or 3 now and it works well ,Love the fact it is such a wide angle view so can see so much more than out of side mirrors (good for traffic coming onto motorway) .just use the rubber straps that come with it for fitting!Had a problem last year where it kept switching off then back on .Spoke to the customer services and they sent me a new one after I had tried a few firmware updates.Found out a couple of months ago after fitting the old one to another car that it wasn't the mirror at fault but the power supply !!Don't get the the power supply that is listed as being specific for The autovox as it is crap .Fitted a different make of power supply and no more problems :)

I really like mine and would struggle without it now. The camera angle is really wide; much wider than the actual screen. This means you can set how "high" or "low" the view is when driving and when reversing seperately, so for me when I select reverse the camera view automatically drops.

The fact it is a front and rear dashcam is added peace of mind.

My camera is fitted internally looking out through the rear window. Hopefully this will help with longevity.

I did have a screen completely fail though. But after speaking to customer services and trying a few possible fixes that they suggested they very quickly sent out a replacement so I can't complain too much. They've also extended the warranty to 2 years for me for peace of mind.

Overall very happy. I'm just waiting for a standard cowl to become available at a good price so that I can try to make it look a bit more OEM!

Awesome - thanks for the intel. That’s quite neat that the high and low views can be different dependant on if yours reversing.

Can you get the speedo reading to show over the top of the live rear view at the same time whilst driving along or is it only the speedo and compass together on their own?

Not sure. I've got the time set up on mine. I'll have a play with the settings.

Mine is mounted on the high brake light. This gives a realistic rear view and like mentioned above you can set the view lower when reversing.

No. It's either the camera or the speedo/compass.

I will never drive a van with a bulkhead without fitting a camera again. Not only do you get a better view making driving safer but the recording front and rear gives me complete peace of mind should I ever be involved in an accident.

Brilliant - thank you for confirming. Speedo overlay not enough to put me off so I will crack on!!
