I did fit it myself. It's fairly straightforward, following the advice on the thread.
The most dificult part is getting the camera feed from the rear to front cab. Rear ceiling out, nearside A pillar and probably the headlining trim in the cab near the bulkhead. TBH £200 does seem like a decent price as I probably spent at least 4 hours in total, probably more, doing mine.Had a quote from a decent local company for £200 for fitting, which I suspect would be a good investment
I really like mine and would struggle without it now. The camera angle is really wide; much wider than the actual screen. This means you can set how "high" or "low" the view is when driving and when reversing seperately, so for me when I select reverse the camera view automatically drops.Hi @Howzat @tomosllyr I’m just about to order the V5 pro rear view camera mirror dashcam package. Having practiced fishing a wire from from to back I’m now pretty comfortable that I’ll be able to do a DIY installation.
Just wondered if there are any downsides now you’ve had yours a while?
Is it possible to get the gps-fed speedo reading over the top of the live rear view image - or only when it’s off and acting as a “standard” mirror?
Did you fit camera high up, or at the number plate/back door handle? Any issues with using it as both a rear view mirror view AND a reversing camera when needed - or does it end up being a bit of a compromise of both? Ie if positioned low for a reversing camera, the rear view mirror image is too low by default? And if mounted high up, rear view mirror image is good but the reversing camera angle is sub optimal?
Any real world feedback greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Awesome - thanks for the intel. That’s quite neat that the high and low views can be different dependant on if yours reversing.I really like mine and would struggle without it now. The fact it is a front and rear dashcam is added peace of mind.
My camera is fitted internally looking out through the rear window. Hopefully this will help with longevity.
I did have a screen completely fail though. But after speaking to customer services and trying a few possible fixes that they suggested they very quickly sent out a replacement so I can't complain too much. They've also extended the warranty to 2 years for me for peace of mind.
Overall very happy. I'm just waiting for a standard cowl to become available at a good price so that I can try to make it look a bit more OEM!
Not sure. I've got the time set up on mine. I'll have a play with the settings.Awesome - thanks for the intel. That’s quite neat that the high and low views can be different dependant on if yours reversing.
Can you get the speedo reading to show over the top of the live rear view at the same time whilst driving along or is it only the speedo and compass together on their own?
Mine is mounted on the high brake light. This gives a realistic rear view and like mentioned above you can set the view lower when reversing.Did you fit camera high up, or at the number plate/back door handle? Brilliant - thank you for confirming. Speedo overlay not enough to put me off so I will crack on!!Mine is mounted on the high brake light. This gives a realistic rear view and like mentioned above you can set the view lower when reversing.
No. It's either the camera or the speedo/compass.
I will never drive a van with a bulkhead without fitting a camera again. Not only do you get a better view making driving safer but the recording front and rear gives me complete peace of mind should I ever be involved in an accident.
Perfect with bracketPictures below
