FitCamX Dashcam (power from rain sensor)

Coming from someone who doesn't like to make things more difficult than they need to be, and who hasn't played around with plastic trim or pillars etc, or has never run cables through a van, how does one run the cable to tailgate so it isn't too visible, and would it go to top of tailgate, or bottom? Does the cable get in the way when opening tailgate?
Or - just go for the front cam? Seems people are happy with these Fitcamx. Cheers.

The factory loom runs up the nearside B-pillar and along the roof line where it is jointed by a connector in the D-pillar, the loom continuing through the rubber boot in to the tailgate, down the nearside void between the window and the side edge.

Thanks.
So do we run a cable by the side of the loom or through it? (told you I was an idiot)

It’ll be bound together at points, and completely wrapped in Tessa tape at others - so you’ll run your cable beside it, including through the rubber boot.

Will have a looksee over the next couple of days to see if this chimp with fat fingers can do it - or might just go for the front one.

Mine turned up last week and I got around to installing it last night. It is not like that at all and the same quality as the other two I have in other cars.

It is worth noting that I have found it very difficult to install in the transporter with HBA as there are lot of cables to feed through into the head lining if you spec the rear cam. Other cars I have done probably take minutes if that but the transporter has taken me about an hour.

The trick was to take the overhead light unit out and cut the webs out of the original cable channel so that there is room to feed them through at the top of the screen.

Mat
Hi Mat, would you mind posting a photo of yours please? I want to order one, but want to be sure it’s not like the prototype they sent me a photo of!

Thanks

Yes it's a filter, that you can order, when you buy the camera it's about £20 if I remember right, it just sticks on the front of the camera lens with the 3m fixing tape, just peel off the backing and stick it on, then you twist it one way or the other to reduce some of the glare and windscreen reflections, it does help and is better with it than without it.

Got a shot of yours to show the reflections? I have noticed the dash reflections are pretty bad on the T6.
