one of the added benefits was that apparently the WIND OUT AWNING - that i wasn't a fan off can be fixed to this rail. . .

meaning it can be fitted and removed as needed - that makes things workable for me. . . so like the idea of that system . . (the removable option)
TBC
Dell, thought you still need to bolt the awning rail in place even if using the multi rail??

Whats your budget for the perfect van, I.e, kombi, hilo roof, lwb, diesel heater, multi rail, in red ;)

Regards pop top, we spent ages and I mean ages looking at different ones Van max, Stealth, Skylow (granted they dont do some of these in LWB) and none of them were as good as the HiLo. The HiLo ticks all the boxes apart from the price...

I love the look of your van, and find myself gravitating to very similar options as you.

Are you selling your s?

No budget yet as are starting to raise funds now.

As for the wind at out awning ... I'm going on what @Eli showed us ... He had a type of remo rail, and a wind out awning. He said that could be removed leaving the rail on the van .

I looked long and hard at a wind out awning on my van. Had one on the old van and found it so easy. But...... there was no point in my mind spending loads of money an a low profile roof that you couldn't see when it's down to put a massive awning cassette on the side of the van that would stick up at least 150mm above the roof line. I looked in to removable but you'd still end up with brackets on the side of the van.

After lots of research I ended up with a sail. It takes a little longer to put up and there are more poles and guy ropes in your space but it has a much bigger footprint than a wind out and comes down a little at the edges. All in all a good compromise I thought.

Touching on what Deaky said, I've got a C rail under my HiLo in the gutter so thats an option too.

Moving on, the next thing I'm looking at is the diesel heater.

Reading between the lines it looks like mounting the heater externaly, but above the underbody plastics is the way to go.( To save seatbase space for electricals)

And that taking the fuel feed from the main tank makes more sense.

I like the OEM look where the cool air inlet is from the drivers foot well step, and the hot air outlet is on the lower b pillar.

I like the various options of timers, remote on,/off etc, but it not a deal breaker.... I loved @Eli OEM Cali option with the roof display panel and remote control.

And that @czmate1999 has a sim card system for remote monitoring?... Does it have an app?

Appart from that.... I have no idea.

So what are people fitting,? Running?

What is the OEM option?

What's a decent unit to look at?

What would you do differently if you done it again?.

I'm hearing names like webastow,?
Erberspratcher,?
Chinese cloan,?

Over to you guys.
I ordered a Kombi with the factory diesel heater, comes with remote,

If you can get a comparable panel van spec to Komi for £3k less, then may be worth fitting a RIB or similar with the difference in costs.

If you are going to have an air awning then I’d say fit a full width RIB bed. I thought about a 112cm bed and units down the side but think the extra sleeping space outweighs it, and you have 3 belted seats.

And now is probably a good time to buy - the people that bought vans 2 years ago for UK holidays will now be worrying about interest rate raises on their mortgages

good point i havent looked fully into it yet.

i just assumed the cassette and related bracketry was fully removable from the remo rail. . .?

maybe its not? - as i said it was just looking over @Eli calli that got me thinking.

fwiw - i looks like @Eli & @Deaky may have the same derv heater - as the panel looks the same? ( Eberspacher)

@Skyliner33 - does yours have a display panel too?

....
I think oldie but goodie fits the Webasto. That’s the one I had in the last van and looks like I will fit again to this one.

Edit: I had the Easystart pro timer.

Edit 2: I think it’s cheaper from Kirknalls.

I hardly ever use the awning so unless you will use one, save yourself the cost. I wouldn’t miss mine if I didn’t have it

Sorry, I don't touch the Eberspächers, only the Webasto air heaters.
whats the difference between the two?

and what do VW fit as OEM?

what brand is better quality in your opinion?

2kw seems to be the right size - with the 5kw being to hot even on low setting.

Reliability wise they are on a par, they are both well made with many years of experience in the market. I only work with Webastos as a retirement occupation so restrict myself to them as I don't want to build up a big legacy for my kids to sort out when I pop my clogs. ( It will be bad enough with what I have now!) Quality - they are much the same.
VW swing between the two, sometimes fitting Eberspächer sometimes Webasto. T5s had the Webasto Air Top 3500ST but have gone with Eberspächer for the T6 retaining Webasto for the coolant heater. T3s had Eberspächer air heaters and Webasto coolant heaters also. I think they just try to even out the sales between the two companies.

Hi, I highly recommend ‘Planar Pete‘ Planar Pete

for an Autoterm (Planar) heater install. He does the install at your house and is very professional. The Planar 2D Pete fitted to our Caravelle hasn’t skipped a beat in the nearly 2 years it’s been installed. I had him come back a year later to fit the semi flexible solar panel to the roof of our Caravelle. The only guy I’d let do any work on my van going forward, really nice guy and a pleasure to deal with. Cheers.
