Diesel - Normal Or Premium

I have read on another forum that unless you use premium fuel or additives from new there’s no point. That can’t be correct?

Wow.....that's a new one! I really can't see that....did they say why exactly? As it happens, mine literally has been run from day one on Shell Optimax and diesel rhino additive. It's a subject that people are passionate about....Not me....I just feel better for using it. I started by using both the above in my old 3rd hand, tired T5. The diesel rhino definitely made a difference. If you're tired of living, have too much time on your hands or insomnia...read the whole of the thread to get an idea how this subject divides people!:thumbsup:

They said literally just that. I’m sure it was on the California Forum.

There’s no point using premium fuels........

“I work in tech for Audi and this is discussed a lot on other forums.

The main thing to remember is you MUST use premium fuel from brand new , if the vehicle is pre owned or was previously filled with supermarket fuel you are wasting your money by switching to premium.”

Can`t see that. If there is a type of detergent in the fuel, why would it not work ?
If there is a cetane booster, it will go with a bigger bang, and performance should improve ? no ?
I have heard quite a few people say they only use Premium fuel every 3-4 tankfuls

It doesn’t sound right to me either, but then I don’t work a tech job for Audi.

I had a golf that was sluggish when I first bought it, I started using shell optimax or whatever the premium stuff is called and it was clearly running much better after a few tanks. More responsive and better mpg. I did the maths at the time and it was actually cheaper per mile because of the increase in mpg.

I'd like to think this is rubbish. The big selling point for all the premium diesel brands is that it cleans your engine as you drive.

Hi

Not wishing to start a whole debate on which is best.....

I was wondering which diesel is best for the 150 Euro 6? Do you just use standard diesel or are there recommendations to use the premium versions such as BP ultimate

Thanks

I've got the 204 Euro 6 and I've had a couple of incidences of engine flat spots, one of which nearly got me in big trouble. So, spoke to local performance garage and they said the first thing to do is use decent fuel as the 'cheap supermarket stuff' will 9 out of 10 times be unhealthy for your engine. So, I think from now on I'll pay a bit more for the good stuff (premium) and see if it makes a difference.

Hmm, had a slight rethink on this due to recent circumstances.
I'm currently working on a contract near Basingstoke, started about a month ago, and it's about 160 miles round trip same route there and back every day.
I normally fill up at the local Tesco, which is on the way to the motorway, mainly because I use the Clubcard points for my Euro trips.
However, a couple of weeks ago I had to fill up at the nearest fuel station to site which just happens to be an ESSO station. By mistake I used the Synergy Supreme+ diesel.
What a difference.
Euro 6 102ps engine is definitely more spritely than before, and up a couple of mpg on the daily trip.

Oh, and the Adblue consumption has dropped slightly as well.

:cautious:

I had a 170BHP CR TDI A6 and logged the fuel and mileage on every tank over 86k miles (geek, I know) and I found that supermarket fuel gave poorer MPG than better quality fuel. For me, the best miles per £ was Shell Fuelsave. The V Power was a better MPG but per £, it wasn’t worth it. The worst one was Asda for me.

Also, never once saw the DPF light either.

I love your commitment..... Good Work

after many tanks of Premium and a Revo map mine is running very smoothly, instamt pick-up, awesome torque, no DPF warnings and MPG has increased by about 3mpg.

I typically use either BP or Esso as they are the main local premium supplier stations near me.

My driving is mainly town, A roads and rural roads with the occasional dual-carriage way.

Normal. Every 4th tank premium if your bothered and it’s not just a lease, for its cleaning additives as much as anything else.

Recommended by a specialist from large oil company in truck devision.

Oh and never from a supermarket.

I get 8.3L/100 regardless of where the fuel comes from.. Esso, shell or from a supermarket, makes no difference to the engine. I go to wherever is cheapest in my area.

I'm an still to see any real proof that supermarket fuels are worse than others, and I don't take "my mate down the pub knows someone that once worked at a refinery or as a trucker said...." as any proof... Real proof where is it?

Think someone said they noticed the van doing more regens, I have never noticed mine doing a regen tbh.

+1 exactly that!

Maybe it's not eu6?

As it's quite obvious I mean when it does one :)
