I think this thread has got a bit mixed up between people talking about normal v premium fuel and normal supermarket v normal branded fuel.
Very possibly - although it was a lot of years ago because of the surreality of some aspects of that meeting I still remember it reasonably well. I was representing the American heavy duty engine plant (The UK plant had been closed a few years earlier) and my focus was more for keeping the Munich production line running and support for any early life failures. From memory, the meeting was split into two and you will have been with a colleague of mine (for that customer I think it will have been Darren) for the transitional warranty type coverage.I may well have been at the same meeting as the after sales organisation of the English patient (as they called it) was within my remit.

I think you’re right!
So to clear it up in my head..
Standard diesel is all the same regardless of what garage you buy it from because it all has to meet the same standard and probably all comes from the same place.
Premium diesel is definitely different because it has additives in it, however there is no actual conclusive proof that it makes any difference other than the fuel companies marketing and anecdotal evidence.
Would you say there is any difference in performance, or is it more for longevity benefits?I buy basic/supermarket fuel and add millers.
I am on my last 2 bottles of the box I bought before they went.
Once they are gone I’ll move onto this.

I do 30k+ miles a year, and have only used supermarket diesel in all 3 of my T6s. No issues with either Euro5 or 6 engines.
How long does 5 litres last? That's what I use. Don't spill it though, very smelly
What’s your opinion on cetane boosters? That’s not quite right, all road diesel has to meet the EN590 spec but some EN590 fuels are better than others, these better ones tend to be from the main fuel brands.
All diesels have additives in them even the cheapest of the cheap as they won’t achieve the std without them, let’s just say premium has a 5 star additive pack whereas the others have less stars.
As to it being better, we’ll it is but whether this has any real benefit to your engine or wallet is unknown as there are so many variables, it’s a bit like saying a good quality bucket will mean your van is cleaner than it would be using a cheap one, it might be but there are so many variations it’s impossible to say for sure.
In my experience bunkered fuels and cheaper supplies will have a greater bio content and reduced lubricity. In diesel bio means water which is the enemy of your fuel system due to the high pressure and tiny tolerances.

Depends how many miles you cover I suppose. I do between 3-500 miles a week, and it lasts for ages. How long does 5 litres last?
I do about the same mileage, do you notice any difference while driving, or do you add it for longevity?Depends how many miles you cover I suppose. I do between 3-500 miles a week, and it lasts for ages.
You only add a small amount
I don`t notice any difference, but then I always add it.I do about the same mileage, do you notice any difference while driving, or do you add it for longevity?
Or both ?
