Engineered Hard Wood Floor

Hey all! New to the forum. Just bought a 204 LWB Nardo Grey Automatic. 21 Reg :)

I am looking at doing a self conversion. I have read up on floors and can see most people opt for an Alto floor.

May I ask why Engineered hard wood is not used? I have found a 10mm thick supplier: 10mm Engineered Wood Flooring | Flooring365

From my understanding it is very wear-resistant and can be sanded in future, re-stained, and offers great waterproof durability. A long with the perfect aesthetics of course.

Any advice would help, thank you!

I would be concerned about weight and expansion/contraction in the changing temperatures inside the van and I guess alto is easy to keep clean

This converter does all real wood furniture but still use synthetic floors. Maybe ask them for advice.

Due to the way the van floor is constructed and the need for supporting batons I doubt that a planked floor would be suitable without a sheet (ply) underneath.
Having both ply and planked floor would raise the floor height and this has implications for the door thresholds / steps.
I know you’re not the first to enquire so maybe someone has actually done it.
IMO opinion there are enough things to maintain in a well used camper without introducing another item. Altro is bulletproof.

These are usually laid as a floating floor, with an expansion gap round the edges, and onto a fixed subfloor that doesn’t vibrate or change shape as much as a van floor would. I’ve seen other self builders do it, but for longevity and weight I would go Altro every time.
