I’ll have to do a bit of searching for the photo when I’m home. It looked like a proper part. From memory it was a German advertisement. Can’t remember if it was advertising the van, the pop top or the heating system.

That being said I’m thinking a length of tumble dryer duct might do the trick as it folds small and my outlet is on my floor/ non oem

You could easily knock something up with some flexible ducting and adaptors like are used on the back of portable aircon units etc

I saw 'My California Dream IBT' on you tube put a length of dryer ducting over the outlet and fed it upstairs to heat the roof section.
I'm planning on adding a length of duct behind the B pillar cover to do the same thing to an outlet at the top, current plan is to use the dash vent off a Smart car to direct the air where it's needed.

I can pretty confidently say that ducting won't fit behind the B pillar

Think I’ll give that ago (removable external piece). My only concern is that since the heat is being directed to the pop top bed area it will never reach the thermostat so the heating will stay on permanently. I’ll give it a try though and work that out. Might just have to create an opening in the duct so that the heat goes downstairs and upstairs

Meant to say, the other thing with mine is that the floor outlet directs the air at a 45 degree angle towards the rear living area. I’m thinking if I switch that for an outlet that fires the air straight up it might find it’s way upstairs easier as the outlet is below the gap you climb through to get into the pop top bed

Apologies for going off topic a bit as this isnt oem but it seemed like the best thread to post in

OK, So I've run into a problem.
It appears that the California uses a different part to some other models for the air guide on the B pillar.
I have been scratching my head trying to get the B pillar cover back on and come to the conclusion that it just won't fit, the air guide would have to be an inch or so further forwards for the B pillar cover to go back on, but that would mean that I'd got the placement of the hole I cut way off and I know that's not the case because my duct comes up from under the van and lines up perfectly with the hole I cut.
So I did a bit of googling and it seems that I've been thrown a curve ball, I have the air guide part number 7H5 819 655 A, but the part I need is the one listed on page 1 which is 7H0 819 655 A which is a little bit smaller...

Pauly! I need a new bit!

Hello @YellowHound and @clufus. I am booked in with exploria in august for this to be done, just wondering, did they fit the intake in the drivers step? If not, where did the fit it ? And finally, are you happy with the install still? Thanks very much

You can buy a S/H heater with bracket and all ducting from German Ebay for the same price as you would pay just for the step/ducting pieces new in the UK. Usually the heaters are tied to the VW electrics so you need to swap the ecu for a standard one. Still one heck of a saving on all new from UK. ( Don't forget that factory fit was 3.5Kw rather than the 2Kw that most people on here are fitting)
One problem with OEM fit is that it is designed to heat by the sliding door on a LHD van which is no good, if like me, there is something right in front of the main vent.

Is there a part number for a drivers step in black with a light in it? I would prefer not to loose the light.

--><!-- (this is a link , don't know why it has truncated to this!)
Last item (4)? Not sure if the light hole is present or you have to cut it out. I know that it wasn't marked on mine that I took out to put the vent one in.

You can’t cut the hole as the hole sits in a recess to allow the light to fit properly
They are available with the hole precut as fitted to caravelles etc, will have a look next time I’m on a computer and see if I can find it

Strange - the light position is shewn on the steps in the diagram! I just couldn't work out if it was a hole or just marking for it.

@Pauly can you get a caravell step with the heater vent, light and the chrome bits on the step? Thanks

Also I am looking for a B pillar trim but in black rather than the beige colour in my van (and the original post) I have found these part numbers, but Im not sure which is the right one:
7E7 867 240 82A
7E7 867 292B 71N

(to fit instead of part number 7E0 867 292L 92W)
If you could tell me the matching n/s trim number that would be great.
Thanks

You can't get the lower B pillar plastics in black for a van, they only come in Caravelle variants which would mean changing the upper plastics, the seat belt fittings, the roof head lining and the roof centre console :geek:

Hence mine are covered in vinyl

Remove the interior light, held by 2 screws, then you need to unclip the bit of plastic above it to reveal 2 more screws, then it will pull out
