Yeah, my own insurance covered the courtesy van but my van is kitted out with all my kit and spare parts etc, it's a toolbox on wheels so working out anything else is a pita.

Ah!

If you've got to keep the show on the road in your current van then I guess @Skyliner33 might have a point. The system will show the battery has been disconnected but that could be explained as you removing it to charge it up.

You can decline the AA callout and request the VW Assist team, I believe the AA is the out of hours cover.

You may have to wait for a mon-fri 9-5 callout, but at least they will be VW.

If you decide to buy your own battery as a temp measure untill this is sorted out. (Thats what i would do to keep the van otr)

Make sure you get the same spec battery.... ie AGM, EFB+ 90ah, 110ah etc etc.

The spec is on the sticker on the battery top.

Update

Yesterday , having driven couple of dozen or so miles, I stopped or some milk, and bleh, nothing.

Gave Heritage a bollocking, although not their fault as they have to play VW’s game, regarding replacing the battery.

So, nice recovery guy came out an hour after calling VWAssist, and plugged in a thingy that actually said “Replace “ battery., and another button said alternator ok after we jump started it.

So will have an interesting conversation with VW tomorrow.

Will keep forum updated.

Any chance if a pic of the battery before they replace it?

Ie. Model sticker on top of battery.

I have put on a couple of posts on this matter, the latest earlier on today, but recovery guy’s thingy actually said “Replace” (battery).

See my posts on this matter....... definitely an issue with these batteries.

MOL batteries are known problem...... we're looking at building a list. a date range and product number of affected units.

Mine was the same, I took a photo of his screen saying replace, he also wrote that on the job sheet. VW ignored it completely and just charged my battery and told me it was fine.

Heritage’s manager rang as promised. As others have found, the dealer has to follow VW’s procedures, even though I have the photos from one of VW’s Assist people. So, they are ordering a battery (don’t keep them in stock ) and will let me drop the van in for overnight charge for testing first thing following morning with a view to meeting VW’s requirements, as the courtesy vehicle is needed the next morning.

Really disappointed in VW (as opposed to Heritage) as we have paid a high premium for these vehicles, and this is clearly a known issue.

Had ours go again at weekend, called Vw assist was told AA can come within an hour but insisted Vw assist come. As I was told they arrived in the afternoon and diagnosed faulty Moll battery. They could take van to local dealer to collect hire van as battery was 10 day back order, I was lucky enough to have spare car battery so told them I would keep my van and jump start when needed. Vw assist are informing you that a replacement van is being made avaliable whether hire or from dealer as all batteries are on back order. VW assist are coming out hopefully next week with a new battery. Not ideal but cant be doing with swapping everything over and have a big excess in a hire van if worse happens.
Had to jump start off this, lol

I had mine replaced today after getting vw assist out last night, AA came back out this morning and to be fair he was much better than VW , he sourced a new replacement varta battery which has now superseded the moll battery and arranged for vw assist to come back out and fit it, vw assist were going to let me take the van to vw who would then run diagnostics and decide if the battery was faulty, suprisingly there were 4 batteries at the suppliers, vw assist guy now has them all
