Very cool.
I'm keen to keep mine inconspicuous - so no one notices the change.
This is the main reason I'd like to swap the left buttons so the new wheel had the correct assist button, even though I've never used that button on the original wheel.
I think it is also possible to swap the plastic cover of the keypad. So you can have the electronics of the keypad with support for hands on detection and the cover of the keypad with the symbol for the assistant menu

I presume you mean to replace just the plastic button so the picture on the button looks correct but it still won't work? I guess I could try that but I'm not sure I care at this stage. Anyone who knows which button is meant to be on the wheel will probably notice if it doesn't work. I suspect I'll just leave it as it is until I find a reason to do anything else about it.
Thanks heaps for your help - I don't think I could have found the correct wheel without all your information.
Cheers.

Hi @Pauly,
Very impressive post,
Do you finally found the reference to the t6 Terminal?
Is it a picoMQS as suggested?
Thanks

Hello
Could you please, if someone is able to take a picture of the PCB board of the left controls from the back? Standard controls not touch. A close-up picture, with as much detail as possible. I have the controls, but someone before me unsoldered the chip and a few other components, so I don't know the orientation and location of those components, also couple SMD resistors are missing and need to be able to read the values from pictures.

Thank you, Pauly, for this guide, which helped me a lot. This week I changed the steering wheel in my 2023 T6.1 California Beach from the standard multifunktional steering wheel (2G0419089B) to a steering wheel with paddles and hands on detection (and potentialy heating), Part No. 3G0419089CR. I did a bit of documentation in the german forum: Bericht Umbau auf Lenkrad mit Schaltwippen und kapazitiver Berührungserkennung

I also had the problem that the new wheel has a 5 pin connector and the Airbag has a 6 pin plug. I bought a 5 pin plug from VW and wanted to switch the pins from the 6 pin plug to the 5 pin plug, but the pins are different sizes and cannot be switched from one plug to the other.
I solved this by buying another set of multifunctional steering wheel buttons, part. No. 3G0959442S. This model has a 6 pin connector and also the connectors for paddles, hands on detection and heating.

After switching the wheels I had to do some coding to make the hands on detection work for the adaptive line guidance:
In control unit „19 Gateway“ in long coding „Sollverbau_KLR“ auf „installed“ (Byte 01, Bit 3 to activated). After that you can clear the error "additional installation detected“ in the gateway.

In control unit „A5 Driver Assistance“, long coding „Klr“ auf „coded“ (Byte 05, Bit 2 to activated)

In control unit „13 Adaptive Cruise Control“ is a long coding for „Capacitive_steering_wheel”, but I did not manage to activate this (keeps switching back to not activated).

Hands on detection is working and will prevent the alarm message that comes when the driver did not make steering inputs for some time.

I had no luck so far to get the button for travel assist working.
Hi Nemesis,
Having had our DSG MFSW installed since June, I'veonly just noticed I have an OBD error, "additional installation detected“ in the gateway and now I see that you even mentioned this in your message above but I never went looking at OBD after I installed the new wheel, because it was just working fine!
As per this thread that I created, I have tried to enable the "Sollverbau_KLR" in the 19-Gateway but it won't accept that change and it says “Marginal conditions have not been met”
I don't have the A5 driver Assistance control module, so I'm trying to work out if I can fix this by swapping the buttons as we discussed previously, or just ignore the fault, or if some kind genius can suggest how to get rid of the Additional Installation fault.? :)

Sorry I've never taken my buttons off.
Have you looked online for photos of the buttons? There are lots of them on eBay etc but maybe not good enough photos?

Does anyone know if the Passat B8 dsg wheel will work? It looks to be the same fitment, but will my airbag work and will all the connections line up? Also, is there any coding needed to get the paddles to work?

on mine it work without any wire modifications for :
-MF buttons (all buttons, Travel Assist included, if I put A5 in "HC variant 2")
-DSG Paddle
-Horn

it doesn't work for :
-capacitive touch detection ( touch detection T6.1 steering wheel )

Happy Days - at Nemesis suggestion on my other thread, I unplugged the Hands on Detection plug from the back of the left button pad and now I have no OBD errors at all.
I hope I can just ignore the TA button that does nothing. We don't haver the A5 module so I can't enable TA.

Iv fitted a golf r with the r button on the wheel in my van everything works on the right side but on the left the only thing that works is the volume. Any help would be appreciated.

That's bizarre. I have no suggestions, sorry. I don't see how the right buttons work but not the left, since the wiring goes via the left!
