Hello all,

Sourced a pair of h7 off a forum member, thank you!

Now want to make sure get absolute best (error free and legal plug and play) bulbs pre installation.

Read through all 49 pages.

Am I right-

What else do I need?

Many thanks again,

Chris
Awesome. I went for Osram Cool Blue pictured below. They give a whiter light than other halogens but not as white as the DRL. I’d recommend not getting the 150-200% as they don’t last long and are a yellow light. They are ok for main beam but you will be changing the dipped ones about once a year.

For the tiny side lights I just went for the cheap blue halogen ones from ABD. I don’t use side lights.

My DRLs are the ones you have linked and they have been good for 14+ months. You will need some indicator bulbs too. I just used standard halogen.

Make sure you check all the bulbs are working before remounting the headlights and bumper. Finally you will need access to Carista (or VCDS) to recode the lights so the dipped stays on with main beam as they would when fitted as OEM. It’s in Carista Beta. Allow about 90mins to do the job.

Uh oh. I’ve brought the 200% ones. Haven’t fitted the H7’s in the van yet but had them too long to return.

Are you doing it yourself?
If so, familiarise yourself with the front bumper removal technique. There is quite a bit of forum advice on this, including the fact that you don't actually have to totally remove it, but rest it on a bag of dog food or similar, to gain access to the bolts holding the lights in place
Thank you

Give them a go. You may get longer depending on how much night driving you do. At least you will know how to get to them when/if you need to change them.

Do you have a link to the halogen bulb you mention ‘tiny side lights’ please

Which ones best?
Depends what you mean by best. Top 2 are the same and will be slightly whiter and brighter but last slightly less long than the bottom one. It’s all very small margins. Just don’t expect any halogen bulb to look like LED or Zenon whatever the package says!

I’d avoid the Osram led drls as it throws an error unless you know someone who can code it out, I bought the resistors to go with them but couldn’t believe how hot they ran so just ended up using lumro? white effect halogens for drl as they came with the H7s I’d bought. I did buy and fit the updated bulb holders though as the ones in there looked toasted and also removed the cheap led sidelights as they knocked out my DAB signal when the lights were on!! Got the 200% nightbreakers, they’re really good I’d say, don’t know about longevity as they only been in a month but I’m no longer afraid to drive at night

So spurred on by the relentless optimism of this forum resolved to try and sort h4-h7 swap.

Stumbled at the first hurdle hahahha, couldn’t even remove the trip clip this guy manages with ease at 2mins in…

Didn’t have a ‘trim clip removal tool’ or a skinny spanner so tried a large flat head screw driver. Just felt like I was chewing the plastic up!?!

Ouch to DIY pride haha

Any steers….

Sorry to hear you’re having problems mate. I’ve found this tool invaluable for removing that clip, not sure if it was from halfrauds or amazon. It’s a silverline brand? You can get a whole kit of them reasonably priced.

Ordered one from Amazon immediately.

Just felt like I was chewing up the plastic with my attempts.

Do you, or anyone know what clip I will need to replace with if I break it?

May be worth me getting in some spares!

Thanks again

Chris
