How does a post Covid-19 world look?

Did you think he was going to sit there and read out word for word the 50 page report being issued on phase 1 of easing the lockdown....?!

People glaze over after a few minutes and switch off let alone the hour or so it would take to go through every detail... It was meant to be brief and give just initial guidelines with, as he said full report to follow...

What do people expect ffs.....
Agreed. If it's not brief, it's not a briefing.. It would be a longing.

Seemed pretty clear to me as long as people are sensible with it and I know some wont be, I live in the Peaks and we've seen them all the way through, both hikers parking where they think they can't be seen a large number of cyclists in groups.

The people who are going to ignore the guidance are going to do that anyway, this now means I can walk further than 4 miles at a time and possibly see my family whilst socially distancing, in the last 3 weeks we've had a death and new birth so just sitting across a picnic blanket would be great at the moment.

Out of interest has anybody caught a cold in the last few weeks, I ask after producing some bright green snot this morning... a cold then and I've not been anywhere... we're doomed!
My wife has a cold from September to March and extremely bad hayfever from April until July and has done for the 20 years I've known her.... It's hard to tell in our house. But apparently snot is good as that's not a covid sympton.

to be fair, @Neil Nicholls isn't the only one. here's a tweet from Brian Booth, the Chair of West Yorkshire Police:

"Policing Covid 19 has become impossible after today. My colleagues cannot Engage, Explain, Encourage or Enforce such woolly rules. This is now down to the public to Police itself. Please let’s avoid a second spike.
@WestYorksPolFed @Cameramal"

personally i would except the PM/government to give clear, concise guidance that's easy for the vast majority of the public (and businesses) to understand.
already this morning the First Secretary of State has contradicted his own earlier advice about meeting people from different households/reletives.
so, when senior members of the cabinet don't understand the initial guidelines, i'd suggest the guidance was very poor wouldn't you?

No I din`t expect him to read a 50 page booklet.
What I had hoped for, was a speech that the country could get behind, and some clear guidance.
If things are not clear, many people will take it that they can do what like.
I saw a Mp post on Twitter that 'Stay alert' obviously means 'follow the rules'. Does it ?
Now they say we can visit family. Can we ?
I can make my own decisions on what I think is, and is not sensible. Can everyone ?

Suspect it will look like it's being taxed to the hilt.
Quite possibly and all the people that who have benefitied from the government covering their wages and the business that are bailed out will complain and blame it on whichever governmant is forced to increase tax rates. However it is not anyones fault, unless you're into conspiricy theories then it could be anyones fault.

Taxes pay for all we use, if we use more we will have to pay more and a global pandemic transcends policies and politics.

It's the same for pretty much every country.

Correct. Just means we'll have less money to spend on our vans.

Interesting times, I think that we are one step on from where we were. ‘Stay Alert’ to me means ‘continue as we have been, enjoy the little bit of extra flexibility but stay vigilant to the risks’. Nothing’s changed for my family as of today. The move in messaging works for me - the needs of the press to insert ambiguity does not. Just my 2 cents.

agreed, and the normal citizens of this country will abide and carry on as they were. Not taking the Micky,,, but so many idiots will take full advantage!!

So let’s try and get this right....UK gov is paying Furlough ( indirectly or directly to each nation ) so when Boris says... OK back to work and the other nations are staying at home....does Furlough stop for the English and the rest carrying on getting paid to stay at home.......Just a thought as the question of Tax came up
Could never see that Independence would work ...in an ideal world you won’t have ..wars ,poverty Or pandemic’s....but we do and the whole country needs a one stop shop that includes every one...we are a union

As the question of tax came up.
I was talking to a plumber friend of mine one the phone last week. (No one from in here). Another plumber colleague was really pissed off that he could not claim much on furlough even though as a self employed plumber working full time his income (declared) was not enough to pay tax. Unbelievable some people.

I think the Chancellor has yet to make an update to the Furlough which can currently be claimed until the end of the month.

I think this might be going into dangerous territory @VanDamMan with respect to unionist / nationalist arguments and may fall foul of forum rules.

But if it makes you feel better, living in Scotland means I paid 12% more income tax last year compared to what I would have paid, if I lived in England. And no, I didn't get a free prescription either.;)

That takes the piss. Some in my industry who operate the same way have been complaining too. If you ain't prepared to pay the appropriate amount of tax, don't expect the same level of help.

Is it alright just not liking Nicholas Turdgeon with a passion bordering on unhealthy, if it helps my son lives in Kelvinside, Weegie and works in Falkirk so I won't say too much in :unsure:case of hostage taking.

Take your point...but the tounge in cheek comments just highlight the fact the Uk is not moving forward together and it makes it so easy to confuse the public and cause so much confusion......that said we don’t get free prescriptions and that divides the public and as for Tax the unfair part about it is some pay more than others......this Covid19 issues just doesn’t stop at boarders or boundaries , we are an island and the same rules should apply to all regardless of political beliefs

No confusion in Scotland to be fair. 'Its still....STAY HOME'. With the exception of now being able to take your dog out for a poo (or scottish equivalent = jobbie) more than once a day, it's pretty much same old, same old.

Ms Sturgeon has yet to acquire the Covid-19 immune system antibodies that Mr Johnson now has.

Just saying.

indeed. but another take on this, i was taking to a friend of mine who works as a sole trader and earns upwards of 50k, which they rightfully declared on their returns to the tax man. and they are not entitled to a penny.
why is that so and how is that fair?
