Insurance popularity question

Dilema for private van SDP&C insurance for my modified Kombi…

Renew with Brentacre (MarkerStudy ) for £485 with a £0 voluntary excess.

Or

New policy with LV but it is £90 more at £571 and the voluntary excess is £350.

I really can’t find many good reviews about MarkerStudy and LV is the only mainstream insurer that will entertain coilovers :x3:

This is from LV's website, but it's equally applicable for any motor insurer...
I understand all that, I got the same from Aviva but people on here are getting quotes for half the price on similar vehicles. @t6blo has a quote almost half my best quote on a modified kombi. And I have £250 voluntary. I'd bite a hand off for £571.

Pardon me for answering the question you asked rather than the question you thought you'd asked....
What on earth is driving up the cost?

As you know there are lots of factors that contribute to your insurance loading - everyone is different and you can’t really compare unfortunately.

Just for info I am 50, work in IT, have 17 years protected NCD, no claims, no convictions and my wife is a named driver. I live in Essex and park on driveway.

It's like a dark art! Howdens wouldn't even give me a quote when I enquired because of where I live, Brentacre no issue!

After a massive hike from previous insurers I went with Carole Nash

Comprehensive cover with legal and no claims protection on my 65 T32 LWB Kombi
was £312

I have no points or recent claims and full NCD

( This is a commercial policy rather than
camper )

They quoted me £1600 on a 68 SWB Kombi, by far the worst so far. So I'm at a loss.

I guess where you park it overnight must be a significant factor too.
It's a private car park. But whenever I've asked they never give any details or reason as to price increase. 2 years ago I was paying £480. None of my details have changed and 2 more years NCB.
That's actually the best of the rest £753 but with additional comp £400 excess

As @Toffermora said, it is very much a dark art.

Looks like I'll be renewing with Lifesure on my MH despite a 40% increase.....sub 350 quid whilst other usual suspects are 400 - 800 !!

Caravan Gaurd £388.00 Professionally converted van. Agreed 70K.
61 full no claims.
Had to have a tracker fitted. Been with them for years. Renewal in a couple of months.
Thanks for the tip, NFU went from £500 to £700 this year, £336 with caravan guard

EVs are being written off for what would be small damage on a petrol/diesel car. Any damage near the battery and the dealers are recommending a new battery which is often more than half the value of the car, so gets written off.

Also, I won't be using Just Kampers again. I insured through them, the price was double what I got elsewhere so I cancelled. I was only insured with them for about a week and I got a demand for £162 today from them. Just a lot of agro and poor service IMHO. The policy was cancelled in April, so why the delay? there was also the threat of £25 extra if the amount was unpaid and went to debt collectors.

I hadn't received a renewal advice from Adrian Flux with 24 days before renewal, I thought I would give them a ring. Worried having had my motorcycle insurance with them jump by 20% to a massive £150 per annum.
How surprised I was when the lady came back to me with a reduction in premium of over £150 from last year, to £560.85 for the year (8000 miles) including £48k agreed value (through Trinity Lane again). This time with Ageas not Markerstudy.
Fair to say, well happy!
