Locking Wheel Bolt recommendation

Well I’m glad you 2 agree with each other, I do too. 6 sided socket for undoing ya nuts.
However despite several attempts on and off today it is still not budging.
Thanks for the suggestions and advice so far. Will persevere.

There are a few specialists around who will do this job in 15 minutes for about £10 a wheel, with zero damage.
Just Google for your nearest.

Thanks, that’s my back-up plan for tomorrow, if I can find anywhere open.
Just don’t like giving in!

Have you tried, with a flat end punch to hammer down those rounded (upwards) edges? I’d go around the whole circumference. You need to hit it firm and hard to peen the edge back down. 9 o’clock and 5 look particularly bad.

I've had this before where the pattern on the bolt removal tool actually sheared off!. At the time I was able to get hold of a dynomec kit but that was next to useless.

What worked for me and has been metioned earlier in this thread is hammering on a 12 corner socket once you've got the rotating ring off. If it still won't budge, apply heat down the centre of the socket onto the bolt head and it should then start to unscrew.

As a preventive measure, I always have the locking bolt at a lower torque than the normal bolts, so for the T6, 180Nm for the four standard bolts and 150Nm for the locking bolt.

I read with interest your locking wheel bolts thread.
After quite a bit of research and cross referencing with the help of others ,the McGard locking wheel bolts for a T32 with 17" Devonports is the 28044SU which I agreed with.

They do look slightly different in appearance to origIMG_2353.jpeginals so not really sure if that is a real problem or not....anyone have any thoughts on the pictures attached....the McGard ones obviously have the chrome top part.
The thread length is the same length ,as the McGard tapered washer has slipped down slightly which makes it look shorter in the pic.

Sorry to open up an old thread, but does anyone know if these McGard locking wheel nuts will fit with steel wheel centre caps? What I mean is do they stick out too far for the centre caps?

I had to help the neighbour get his half rounded locking nut off the car last week - it involved a hammer! We took the others off and they went in the bin.

I’ve just take the locking bolts off SWMBOs car and replaced with standard bolts as too much hassle!

I always keep a spare standard wheel bolt on the van in case I chew up a locking bolt while away from home.

Does any one know where to buy locking wheel nuts for t6 shuttle 2017 with davenport alloys thanks sam

Hi all, I have just had new alloys fitted which needed new bolts.

So I now need to buy new locking wheel bolts, I have read various threads on here saying some have failed when trying to remove.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good brand that works well and are secure.

Cheers guys

Hi @Jonesy68 .
I’ve had a set of McGard standard and locking bolts for 4 years with no removal/wear issues.
Now have an H&R set the rears.
Both seem to be of same style/quality of manufacture as the original VW ones that came fitted to my Devonports from new.
Cheers, Andy
