OEM Headunit Problems [Merge]

anyone had a problem with discover media ? mine changes radio stations, the touch screen and all the buttons stop working, the rear camera does not display correctly, then suddenly all is ok, then it goes back to not working same problem, I've done a reset and its still the same, its just out of warranty, any idea's ?

What has happened with the problem in the last 4years?
I have a similar problem.
My touran is now 3years old. Last winter in mornings with about 0 degree C the media system didn't work at all. In the evening it worked.
After pushing the knob for on /off for 10s it worked.
Now after inspection at VW it is rebooting all 5 min.
This behaviour is only there, when my huawai WLAN stick is inserted in the USB socket. But also if supplied by an external USB supply (cigaret plug).
Anyone experienced this or know what's going on.
Thanks

Hi,

My 2016 T6 went in to VW dealer for a service and cambelt change last week, and on the way back, the Discovery Media system started going mad picking up phantom screen presses and finger movements.
It repeatedly beeped and moved the map on its own when it satnav mode, but did the same on all screens, so it's not satnav related.
It's never done this before, and dealer reckons it's nothing to do with them, that they didn't apply any upgrades, but they'll happily "diagnose" the problem.
Seems to be my word against theirs :-|

Any clues on what could have caused this?
Any what (if anything) could get them to look at it _and_ fix it?

Thanks!

Have you tried rebooting it? Press and hold the on/off button until the VW logo appears on the screen

Mine is unusable now. Even the buttons don't work. Also just out of warranty.

Quoted £2244.10 for a new one! No route cause explained, only option is to replace. They couldn't even do the software upgrade due to touchscreen not working.

Hi, has anyone else had a discover media head unit go wrong? Touchscreen selects stuff on its own. Buttons don't work...

Mine is unusable now and just out of warranty. Have been quoted £2244.10 inc. for a replacement. With no route cause to why it has failed!

Would it be cheaper to install a good aftermarket system rather than ripoff VW?

Hi, I’m having the same problem it seems. It’s as though the touch screen doesn’t work and sometimes has a mind of its own. Did you get sorted, just by buying a new unit or did you investigate getting it fixed. If you changed the unit around what cost and did it work with all the controls on the steering wheel. It’s getting on my nerves now? Cheers

Having the same problem, just filled in a repair request at a Sat Nav repair specialist but not sure if that’s an option.

Have you managed to sort anything with yours?

No, it’s in Surbiton. KT6. You can call in by appointment for a free diagnostics but it’s a four hour drive for me. You can also send it and if you decide not to go ahead you pay the £18 return postage as the diagnostic and estimate is free.

It would be the same for me, 4 hours there and 4 Hours back, then you would have to go back and get it sorted after a diagnostic check, try ringing VW head office, My Local VW garage closed just as the fault started so they could never see it, I will be talking to VW HQ to see if they can/will help. I will let you know. have you looked to see if anyone local can do the repair, there are lots of small companies around, that might be able to fix it, so your local dealer could not or would not help ?

As absolute5 says, I wouldn't even consider fixing a VW unit. Aftermarket are superior for the price or half the price in fact.

I had this issue with my standard headunit, it happened more often when i connected my phone using the socket in the dash.

I changed it for the Kenwood DNX9190DABS headunit fitted by Absolut5 with no more issues

Hi,

did you find a solution?

I've got the same, the touchscreen starts going mental after a while, once it starts phantom touching the stereo basically stops receiving any input.

I've read somewhere there might be a software update for it, but I guess that’s not free?

Did you find a solution? Mines started doing this too? I wonder if it’s hardware or software fault?

mine works for about 20 minutes at a time.

I had mine replaced. The service centre I used managed to get VW to pay 70% of the cost somehow. I also got a free full service out of VW after complaining direct to them.

I would suggest getting it to a garage ASAP to see if a software update can sort it. My screen was unusable so they couldn't even do that .

Thanks for getting back. Mine certainly only seems to happen after 45 minutes. I’ll call them tomorrow and see what happens.
