No, it’s in Surbiton. KT6. You can call in by appointment for a free diagnostics but it’s a four hour drive for me. You can also send it and if you decide not to go ahead you pay the £18 return postage as the diagnostic and estimate is free.
There is a place in Bolton that do work on VAG head units. may be worth a call.

Hi, I have a VW T6 with a Discover Media head unit. I am having problems using the touchscreen, mainly on left hand side. I have tried cleaning without success. Does anyone have any other ideas? If it needs replacing any recommendation on a replacement? I guess the VW unit will be expensive!

Have you tried screen calibration?
I’m interested in this too, as my screen will not allow me to hit ‘My Destinations’ nor enter the letter ‘S’. Considering I live in the SS postal code area, it’s very annoying.

i own a 2016 vw transporter t6 lwb highline kombi 180dsg, its covered 38000 miles from new, it has full vw service history and is as you would expect in excellent condition. about 3 months ago the head unit developed a mind of its own, it changes stations, resizes maps and locations, and freezes the screen. i have tried the factory reset as advised on the forum, this clears the fault for a day or two. i took it into my local dealership, they told me the unit needs replacing and cost would be £1800.00 plus fitting as its out of warranty. the parts deartment told me they had replaced 3 of the units over the last 12 months or so. the dealership offered a £500 discount as a gesture of goodwill, but still leaves a bitter taste to have to cough up over £1300 plus fitting. has anyone had a similar problem but got a better result from vw, if so, how and who did you deal with. kind regards john

I’m getting exactly the same, again on a 2016 T6, it’s got its own poltergeist, tried sending me to Iceland via the satnav the other day. I was quoted north of £1700 to do a like for like replacement from a VW independent garage.
interested to know how katmav1 managed to get VW to pay - how far out of warranty was it?
I’ll be ringing VW to talk about a software update, will let you know how that plays out..

I know this doesn't answer your VW problem but have you considered upgrading to an aftermarket unit? It is a lot cheaper than the quotes you have had and is relatively simple to do yourself.

Another option you have is sourcing a second hand OEM unit, having the vehicle protection data coded out and fitting this yourself also.

If you are not far out of warranty or its been an ongoing issue then VW often do a 70/30 split and brand support covers 70 and 30 goes to dealer which is normally charged to customer, remember its the dealer charging you 30 so it costs them nothing (they are actually getting paid to do the job) so its always worth pressing the dealer for a contribution !

Personally not sure i would go down the road of a dealer replacement for one of these, there are several companies selling these units that will drop into any vans with all features (like app connect and voice) unlocked for a fraction of the cost they are charging

Thanks Pauly, I’d agree that the VW part is still money, a local car audio centre has quoted me £1k for an aftermarket replacement that ties into the rear camera, parking sensors etc.
It’s a year out of warranty now so I suspect I won’t get anywhere with a convo with the dealer, hopefully there is a fairly easy software update that can be performed which will resolve it. If not I’ll change it out for something else...
Yikes!

There was a similar post on Facebook where a bloke said he can replace the screen for £200

I'm having exactly the same problems on my 4 yr old Transporter. Interested to hear any results that don't cost the earth.

I have spoken to vw customer services uk and they are currently looking into it, they spoke to dealership who denied any knowledge of it or my van ? even though they have serviced it from new and supplied all the oem sportline kit and wheels . I await a reply , but will keep you updated. regards John
