Planar Night-Heaters.

Fitted a Planar Heater over the last few days and tested it this morning. All working fine.
I was a little nervous about dropping the tank but I took my time and it was easy enough. I managed to do everything on the drive by just lifting the van a few inches. Now ready for the colder weather !!
Fitted my planar heater today

mine doesn’t work tho, have to send it back

I supplied a kit that someone had an installer fit - the installer completely screwed the wiring up, chopped it all short then miswired it. I had to take it back and reconstruct the loom. This installer advertized as a Webasto heater installer!
Why you would need to change the length is strange, just coil any extra up. If you really have to shorten a loom don't start talking about cutting pieces out and re-joining, fit the correct connections at the end. Some of the joins that I have seen on looms have been appalling - those ridiculous plastic covered crimps are a great source of problems - they are usually poorly made and can pull apart and are a great source of corrosion both leading to voltage drop. ( The voltage drop on a long loom as supplied is negligible, people create more voltage drop by running the power cables to various central systems with extra fuses and connections rather than wiring direct to the battery).

I just cut the cable and soldered and 2 layers of heatshrink, also lengthened the controller cable the same way, works fine, 20200708_145047.jpg

You are quite correct, I soldered and heatshrink the blue wire first then realized I had joined it to green.
I should have redone it in the correct colours but took a photo instead for future fault finding. You have caught me out and my only excuse is I used cable I had at home rather than buy correct colors.Well spotted. Oh the shame

Afternoon folks, Can anyone give their opinion on Planar heaters please? £800 fitted by Planar seems a great deal.
Cheers.

Only used mine a couple of times and its been OK. A simple control unit to switch on/off and set the temp. It was fitted underneath with the air tube out the back of the driver's seat lower section but it would need another outlet if your leisure battery is fitted under said seat.

Ahh ok, good to hear about the simplicity... im not planning on using a leisure battery as i have no other use for the battery....i read the draw is only about 1.5a an hour so i wonder if this would be ok to run off the main battery?? Interested to hear off anyone who runs a heater without a seperate battery???

Not too sure abt running it off the starter battery, mine runs off the leisure and 90% of the time we are on electric hook up, not into stealth camping our old bones need facilities these days. You could check this site to see if there's more info.

Ha ha, point taken. Its off their website i had the info but are hoping for some real experience views. Does yours warm quickley enough? Is it the 2Kw version or the 4Kw?

Got one in my T6, had one in my T5.1 also, pleased with mine. The modem is well worth the upgrade. Mine runs off the starter battery, AFAIK it just uses the battery to start it up. I have since had a leisure battery installed and there was no need to move the heater as the battery is under the passenger seat.

Had mine a couple of years now. One thing I can say is that the support is excellent! Install was good, neat and tidy.
Heater itself is more than enough for the van. I have been super toasty in February overnight.

Sounds like im heading this way then, cheers for that. They are including a silent pump and modem at the moment so thats covered. Where did they put your heater unit and where does the hot air come out?

So far so good on the real user reviews then. They seem excellent over the phone so thats encouraging about the customer service. Cheers.

To add to that - it does draw quite a high current when starting up, but quickly drops off. Give Planar a call. Paul is very knowledgeable and wont give you a hard sell.

Good to have a CEapproved heater with UK support.

You only need the little one for a T6. and the new pumps are silent once they are primed.

Cheers bud...next phone call to Paul!!

Mine is fitted under the an under the drivers seat. But as I have a leisure battery under the seat, I got them to run the hot outlet to under the rear seats/ bed.

Mine is the 2Kw and has the PU5 controller which is very simple to use.
