Reversing camera retrofit (OEM)

in vcds what settings have people used for this
10 park/steer assist 00-5
do you need to do any adaptions
does F5 information electronics 19-4 need to be enabled
its the barn door camera from carsystems.pl
its just that iam fitting this tomorrow so would like to know as a friend is coding this in for me in the afternoon
thanks Howard

@Shaw the park/assist setting worked for me - can't remember if I had to switch the ignition off/on to activate. I would do the other setting as well. I didn't do any of the adaptions and it works fine.

@steveph just to say thanks for the info above
now if i select reverse it shows the camera and the van as the photo you posted
if i take it out of reverse gear it says on the radio the park pilot is not available as photo press ok
put it in reverse again and it comes up with the van and reversing sensors as photo knock it out of gear
put it in reverse again and it shows the reverse camera and the van this cycle just carries on
now i have taken the feed to power the camera from the reverse signal

where did you take your feed from or did you have this happen any advice would be appreciated
thanks Howard

@Shaw following colours refer to my van which is a tailgate model.
From the camera I connected the yellow to the reverse light green/black under the headlining (check colour behind the light cluster!). I took the black to a ground stud just above the tail light behind the side panel.
At the head unit the two quad lock pins as per your drawing. The red I connected to the power feed that goes to the head unit as part of the same connector block.
The camera view stays displayed after you deselect reverse until you drive off or for a short time. If you have connected the red power feed to the reverse signal it won't be able to do that and I guess it then gives the error. Carsystems site says permanent 12 V but I figured connecting it to the head unit power feed was enough because you wouldn't have any display without that powered on. Hope that's the fix you need.

@steveph cheers i thought i was taking a bit of a risk with the power of the reverse lamps
@Kev just hold on with purchasing this camera if it will putt some photos up tomorrow

the problem is my guide lines are 18 inch out will post some pictures tomorrow and then get in touch with the supplier, fing typical :(

My OEM camera has just virtually packed up, been into the dealers twice, to sort it. Still not working have swapped the camera and head unit; next is the whole loom that feeds multiple things, the dealer will nor just re-cable the camera. He wants it two days!!!!!!!

Where is the barn door camera located? On the tailgate it is central so I wonder if that second VCDS option makes a difference for the offset - did you have time to play with that?

I'm having one fitted in next few days on dbl rear door t6, just awaiting delivery. will let you know how it goes and put some pics up

Hi

It's correct view , there is no possibility of change settings

ME:
So what you are saying ???
That the guide lines are wrong and it can't be changed
If I used the guide lines for reversing I am likely to crash the van ???
The idea of guide lines is they guide you when reversing
Could you please contact me back on this issue
Thanks Howard

Reply:

In t6 you can't calibrate guide lines , it's OEM Vw product ,this rvc is for help you can't trust only in guide lines

Best regards

Carsystems Team

Dont no if i will be able to get my money back on this ???
Wouldnt be too bad if i could get rid of the guide lines??

@Chris Hewitt this is on a barn door

If you still have your original trim can you mod that and mount the camera to one side of the trim to get it more central?
If it's any consolation I don't really use the guide lines now and prefer the wing mirror view to get left and right correct.
But the rear view is great for looking behind at obstacles and distance :)

yeah going to remove the lock barrel and get the old trim filled and colour coded to the same colour as the van and then move the camera as far across to the centre of the van as possible
something to do other xmas
I think i will start a new thread on it retro fitting a retro fit camera MK2 with proper photos? and where to take the 12v power feed from:)
Cheers H

Is the genuine VW one that's for sale in the shop a direct connection to the head unit? What I mean is there no need to take an extra 12v feed or any other connections?

@Kev the cameras are genuine VW so what i have been told by carsystems
you will have to take a feed from the reverse this is a trigger think the wire was green and black but please check it also require a 12volt supply do not run this supply off the reverse lights as it hasnt enough power to run the camera proplay if you read what i have posted above if you are fitting on a barn door the guide lines will be out what they have done is taken a tailgate camera and mounted it in the trim for the barn doors
Hope this helps

The connections for any camera are split between power and video signal
The video signal cable runs to the stereo and has two pins to connect at the rear, these are simple enough two pins to insert in to spare ways in an existing connector.
The power connections required are red, black and yellow.
red and black are a permanent positive and negative and these can be connected at the most convenient place for you, negative just goes to chassis
Yellow requires a switched feed triggered by selecting reverse, the 'correct' way of connecting this is to the park distance control module in the dash which outputs a switch live when engaging reverse but you can connect to the reverse bulb cable at the rear of van and works ok

Thanks Paul, sounds too complicated for me! Really wish I had species it as it was very little extra as I upgraded to composite media system with 6inch screen
