Side Bars or Side Boards?

So with mine being standard I'd be best with Imo bars. Thanks for the info
I prefer side bars rather than boards. I agree with @Fish about boards being better suited to a swamper.

Even once you’ve narrowed it down to bars you’ve still got choices though, round, trapezoid, black, polished stainless/chrome, straight ends, cut ends etc etc! Colour choice is endless if you want them painted of course, but those tend to be the of the shelf colours.

Very nice! I do like the tapered ends, I went for the rounded end ones but I always think they look too short

We have a difference of opinion on the sidesteps. Which one do you guys all prefer? Currently looking at these two- I like one and and he likes the other... 8CC5F64D-B350-4F0B-BEBE-FD491170D1D1.jpegC72A4644-FB1F-4042-BCCB-782ADC4A4BFA.jpeg

The thing we both agree on is that whichever one we get will need to be black as the red and black go well and this is our van 6C192785-16D5-47B8-AC83-3E2741DEC94B.jpeg

I had the second lot in your original post fitted to my old T5 Caravelle (well they looked very similar) which I think were the make 'Winbo' or something like that. I really got them as a step as my son was about 6 at the time. They were ok for him with really small feet but not great for an adult as you had to turn your foot to use as a step. If you adjust them out further to be a useful adult step they end up sticking out too far. They were poorly sealed so water got in where the rubber steps are positioned, sloshed about and rusted them from the inside out pretty quickly.
I'd buy similar again for looks/sill protection but without the step so they were sealed.

Has anyone put side steps on their T6 in preference to side bars? My youngest is struggling stepping out of the vehicle so am thinking of fitting side steps to help him but I am worried that they will stick out a bit. Are there any low profile steps on the market that also function well as a step?

Hi, hope you don’t mind but a couple of questions......
were they an easy fit? No drilling or cutting?
do they collect all sorts of crap when you drive in bad / wet weather?
cheers,
Cliff
No problem ....happy to help.
Had my dealer mount them on delivery from new. But they are direct fit in existing mounting holes so no drilling or cutting.
From previous experience with another brand van and running boards I had the VW mud flaps mounted behind the front wheels to stop some of it.
I don´t think its too bad and they are quickly cleaned.
I am pretty happy with them and we are now 2,5 years down the road. :)
Hope that gives you an idea

I love the idea of side boards BUT and its a big BUT there is absolutely no point having them if you cannot stand on them (I remember I cant stand on them but other people dont and they then bend the mounts) and I am pretty sure 97% of the T5/T6 running boards you cannot stand on. I've gone through 4 different types and you cannot stand on them. The mounts are far too weak. I was tempted to get some land rover discovery 3+ ones and try and mount them but I am far too lazy. In the end I have not bothered since.
Bars are nice and set the vehicle off nicely, imo they are a tad common though but it does make a Transporter, a transporter I suppose.

Interesting thoughts.... :)
I have mine primarily due to a daughter with physical challenges and she uses it every time she´s in and out of the car. She is quite small and not heavy. But since the running boards are there most other people entering the van use it as well.No bend boards, broken mounts or other problems so far. However if we think heavier folks say 110 kilo and up I tend to agree and see your point. :) But again people use them to step on briefly while entering or on exit and do not stand on them as such. I do prefer keeping people inside the van while driving and not hanging out there on the boards. :D

Hi,

On my Candy White Camper I currently have black side bars. They are showing signs of rust at the front and have lost their gloss look all over - I've no mud flaps so they pick up a lot of dirt/grit etc. Loss of gloss look I think is due to me taking it on occasions when I can't clean it myself to the local car wash who spray it with abrasive cleaners.

I like the look of side steps/running board - but not 100% sure. I've looked through every page of Team Candy White - example on pages 4, 19, 20 & 24 to be precise! I just wondered if anyone else would be kind enough to shoe me pictures of theirs - so I can decide.

Not sure if they're a little obtrusive?? On a practical note as they protrude are they prone to kerb damage etc?

Thanks in advance

I have these to help my daughter.
Mounts in factory holes.

How does one locate these mounting hole please? Do you need to remove the under panels ?

Had the dealer mount them.
But should be pretty straight forward since you are able to use standard hole.
TVA has a video on mounting here:
Seems they pull down the outer side of the panels.

Hope this helps.
