Soooooo I thought I had a T32

I thought, and I'm not certain on this, that the only difference between a T28, a T30 & a T32 was the springs, and possibly wheels/Tyres. If it's a T30 and you get a garage to change the parts which make it a T32, then you should be legal.
But as Loz suggested, get it weighted.
Hope you get a result that meets your expectations. Good luck with the sale.

Front shock and hub are different as far as I’m aware.

Not quite - you also need to demonstrate that the misrepresentation influenced your decision to purchase (though I suspect that would be fairly straightforward in this case).
……. I chose a T32, to ensure I didn't go over weight when I had my professional conversion…..
Precisely.

Make sure the wheels and tyres are rated for a T32.

Plus anti roll bars are different on a T32. It’ll probably be cheaper for them to take the van back, refund and compensate you.

Going against the grain here but, I really wouldn't be too concerned, most Kombi's are T32's so I can see why the dealers could have got things wrong. In practical terms you'll likely be better off with a T30 it gives a wider choice of wheels and tyres, it'll have a better ride as standard and while I've heard of people coming close to max weight with a converted T28 I doubt you'll get any where near the 3080kg max no matter what you do. If you like the van just get on with enjoying it.

Well said

you said your v5 shows its a T30 but was that a mistake from first registration I had that problem bought a T30 dealership registered a T28 but their records always showed it as a T30 even though the V5 didn't

Is there another way to check exact build spec

Thanks all, help really appreciated. I genuinely thought I'd bought a T32, was concerned about conversion weight so figured this was the best option for me. Unlike a lot of you I didn't research, I'd wanted a VDub forever, the Edition came up, it was an auto, nice spec, drove beautifully and and I bought it. I'd told the dealer I wanted a T32, never thought to check. So now worried I'm exceeding weight and p'd off with my dealer...ho hum
Post up a photo of you build label (under steering column or inside cover of manual) and I’ll get the build sheet.

He says it's an Edition, so it can only be a T30. No V5 error, no factory build error, just wrong datà input from the supplying dealer.

Does being a T30 allow car speed limits? I know this has been discussed to death, but being a multi purpose vehicle that can't carry 1000kg could be a good thing?

Afaik that’s t28-t30, I don’t recall anyone doing t30-t32.
I have done exactly that: T30 to T32 weight rating via SVTech.

LWB 4mo DSG camper runs at about 2900kg with only me in it. Add in some passengers and I was worryingly close, particularly over the front axle. Very heavy van spec options though so probably doesn’t apply in most cases.

Didn’t the OP say they only found this out because they were selling the van? Might not care a lot about changing it, just getting the dealers to admit they were wrong, hand over some money for the trouble, etc.? Should be easy with most of the VW dealers I know…..

Did you not check the V5, max permissible weight?
Main dealer sale, so I never checked the V5. Apart from my test drive everything was done online as there were still lots of Covid restrictions in place (Sep 2020). Literally did a test drive, came home, phoned the dealership and put a deposit down.

It can happen!!!
I bought a brand new motorhome from a main dealer. I specked up 180hp heavy chassis (4,250kg) A class. Went touring France and the Alps. Although it drove well enough, I did feel it was a little underpowered. At the first service, I mentioned it to both the motorhome dealer and the Fiat professional dealer (motorhome need a habitation service at the supplying dealership, and the Fiat dealer does the mechanics) The Fiat dealership said "The vehicle is performing within normal parameters sir". On visiting the Fiat Professional stand at the NEC motorhome show, I had a winge about the lack of Oomph in the truck. they checked the vin number against their manufactures database. "There seems to be a discrepancy here sir, we have this vehicle recorded as a 110hp light chassis!!! we suggest you take it to a main dealer for a physical inspection. Next Day, It was confirmed I had a 110 light Chassis...
Back to the motorhome dealer, shock, horror.. They produced the paperwork that clearly showed that they had supplied my original specification. Now back to the importers, they too has the paperwork to confirm 180hp heavy. Now back to the manufactures. after several months toing and frowing, the manufactures authorised a refund of the difference in value between what I'd specified and what was supplied. Not Acceptable. It then went quiet, I then felt the need to remind them that VOSA and trading standards would be interested in this case, particularly as I'd spent a couple of months touring Europe in an overloaded van.....
Result, six weeks later a brand new vehicle supplied to the motorhome dealership for me, with no charge made for use, depreciation etc.
All the paperwork on the original, including V5 stated 180hp 4250kg

I thought that all T32 vans has the larger disks?
Both my vans are T32 for the larger weight and both have the bigger disks.
I have had a T30 before and the disks were smaller.
Am I correct in thinking this?
