Can anyone tell me if I’ve set my Sterling B to B correctly for Lithium 100 ah battery, as it’s reading 13.8 to 13.4 output voltage.

Thank you .

John.

This section flashes the profile setting on start-up.

So reboot the unit and see what it flashes.

You can't tell from the voltage.

will have to check the install guide to check the settings,

i believe @roadtripper has some experience with Sterling chargers?

.

I have experience with Sterling Inverters in the past, which seems to make me more able to figure out quite what the documentation actually means for other products

I have the same B2B as above and am looking at swapping out my lead-acid leisure battery with a Fogstar Drift 12v 105Ah. Fogstar have provided the following settings for the B2B:
  • Boost / Bulk / Absorption (V): 14.2V
  • Conditioning (V): Not required by Fogstar Drift battery
  • Float (V): 13.7V
  • Absorption Time Factor (0-18): 4
  • Absorption Minimum (0-960 minutes): 0
  • Absorption Maximum (0-960 minutes): 240 (4 hours)
It's for a Camperking conversion with no solar, just the Sterling BB1230 and a CBE CB-516 mains battery charger. Can I just confirm it's a straight battery swap then update the settings on the B2B? Anything more complicated to worry about?

You need to consider what you are doing with the mains charger as well.

A lot of threads on this, often about CamperKing as it happens. Search on the PDU model number you have to find them generally.

You'd be best to disable/remove that charger and replace it with something fully Lithium aware like one of the Victron units.

looks like that charger is for SLI batterys

CB-516 mains battery charger

but it shows 14.3v/13.8v on the Gel setting - which help charge the Fogstar.

worst ways the Lifepo4 will just pull max power - 16A on a flat Fogstar and just overheat and die (eventually)

next best option is to replace with EHU charger with a proper Lithium one, either from CBE that now do a Lifepo4 version charger,

or just swap for known and tested Victron unit. IP65 or IP22 BSC.

Cheers both. I've looked at those Sterling instructions and am a bit confused, hence posting here. The diagram on page 10 has 2 profiles for lithium, but my version and the one pictured by Rioja John doesn't list these profiles. The render in the manual of the BB1230 does have those lithium profiles, so appears to be a slightly different version from mine and Rioja John's. I'm hoping I can get around this using the custom settings. @Rioja John what profile did you use?

Thanks for pointing out the issue with that CBE charger. That's a pain as it rarely gets used. Will take a look at the Victron options, but might leave that job for another time and just not use hook-up for now.

It was flashing up Gel11 and AGM11 with the lifepo4 green light on at 12 @Dellmassive

I got really confused with it, and left it as my above post, it seams to be charging my two 100 ah ecoworthy batteries ok but I’m thinking of replacing the Sterling with a Victron unit in the future, but I’ve not been able to use my system up to yet as I badly broke my leg in April and still unable to drive.

John.

Setting up that particular charger is really complex as it's all timed button presses and using the indicator LEDS for many purposes. It works but it pays to work through it steadily with the manual to hand and something like a clock/phone with seconds to check the timing on the buttons.

I'd start by setting the closest preset profile to the figures Fogstar advise because setting the custom profile looks like an absolute mission. And I'd agree with @Dellmassive the one slightly under (#4 Lithium I) is the best match if your charger is the one with 2 profiles.

If you have the version with a single LiFePo profile than I'd be more tempted to attempt a custom setting as the profile looks a touch higher than recommended, that would be fine for bulk but the float is a little high and that's where the battery will be most of the time with day to day non camping driving so you want that one to match or be slightly under.

Or just swap out the sterling for a Victron Orion XS or Renogy dcc30s
