I bought the same kit with the shroud. Can't advise it enough tbh. I also bought a decent thickness flexible bike lock and threaded it through the wheel and then through a strong locking point attached to the underside / chassis. It just means that if they're opportunistic and don't have any proper tools, it delays them. In the event of the wheel dropping from the carrier (which it shouldn't), the bike lock is strong enough to keep them there way longer than their comfort zone would allow. My other advice it to check it regularly for tampering. Clean finger marks and disturbed areas in the dirt / dust / road film should give you a good indication some ones been lurking. Knowing it can happen is the thing - keeps you on guard.

The rear view camera was next level though. Loved it pmsl.

They dont give a sh1t. I had a motorbike stolen out of my garage in February. Still waiting for the Police to even return my phone calls.

Been thinking about this since purchasing my new van.

I’m currently installing new springs and dampers on my skoda superb before it goes. One of the bolts that is recommended to be replaced is M14 spline drive and just checking, is the same thread size as the spare bolt. Also it is domed making mole grip attachment difficult.

I also plan to weld a bit of tube onto the wheel bracket to make a bolt shroud. That should do it!!

Bolt part number is N90954802 and is a bit longer than the std spare bolt for 205 16s.

Obviously you would also need to buy/carry the driver bit.

Regardless of what type of security bolt is fitted, what's stopping a potential thief from removing the pin that holds the wheel carrier in place the other end?

I think most are stolen for the tyres mire than the wheel and agree a worn knackered tyre will put them off.
I'm planning to buy a long cable lock, feed it through the wheel and secure to the van, it's another deterent that will put them off.

I agree. I flogged my unused spare and have stuck a 3mm rusty old steel on there.

I have two more if anyone wants one -

i have a couple too going begging
16 inch thou
if you have bigger brakes you need a 17 inch one
im up noorth derbyshire M1 J30

Yes one of those, bloody useless as the thieves obviously have the nut.
Gonna buy a rusty half worn steel spare to make it not worth the tea leafs time.

Parked in Highgate parked outside Kate Moss's house.

There are not many combinations so they only need a few to see which fits or a battery impact with a locking bolt remover and it's off in seconds

got mine nicked two year old t6 not bloody happy now in back van the old mer i had the nut for winding it down was in side when you open back door.. and the carriers are plastic dunno why not made a proper underside tray that covers wheel and can be lowered from inside..

Happy new year everyone, just to make sure it is, can anyone suggest the best locking nut shroud thingy me jig,! to keep my spare wheel safe. I saw Gary makes them and sells them on the forum shop, but seems to have been shut down! whats the best set up please

Cheers for that, I have seen them on various sites but some say they can be undone with mole grips, so looking for a lock nut with a shroud/cover to stop scumbags getting to the lock nut itself

I bought my locking spare wheel bolt and shroud from the main dealer, cost me £14.

The image on the Heyner site doesn’t really show it’s construction, probably for obvious reasons.
The shiny hex’ head on the bolt is a thin shroud which pushes onto a rotating collar on the periphery of the round bolt head. If a thief applies torque to the hex’ head it will just spin without releasing. If they work out that the hex’ head can be removed they then need to jam / crush the rotating collar on the bolt head before using a Stilson / Mole grip to remove the bolt.
There are easier ways to get the whole bracket off.

Oh ok, didn,t realise that, is this particular one long enough, if so I,ll go ahead and order one, thanks DX
