T6.1 new order delays

I spoke to my seller at a VW centre today and he confirmed what has been said. I’m in a position I had said I wanted mine in March when I ordered it this April, he said he can’t guarantee when it will be done and if it’s after 31st March it will be subject to the pricing level at that time of which he isn’t yet aware of as there will be a price increase early next year (after the 3 since ordering the van). Not often I feel bad for car salesmen, but he’s a great guy and having to call around his customers with the bad news. Guess you have 3 options, refuse and get deposit back, lump it, buy it and spin it off at a premium when it does arrive. Will wait and see what that increase is, but realistically it’s probably only going to be equal to the wheels and suspension mods planned which might now just have to wait a while. The only concern is a price crash, but with current lead time being 14+ months, it’s unlikely.

It is good to see some of the dealers have been contacting customers. My conversion company has contacted me and said there is a "rumour" of a $AUD5,000.00 increase in price. However, he stated that there are "creative ways" that their company will attempt to work around this if it happens. The poor guy has had no sales for over a year so I did not pressure him for further details. My 4 Motion has been ordered with a lot of options. So I have asked him to request VW to inform them if any of these particular options might be holding the build up and see if they could give me the option of proceeding without these options if I would prefer to have the van earlier. He was not sure if this was possible because normally the vans are produced in the order they are ordered. However, times are different now and I believe VW are no longer giving order numbers but rather a Monthly building date and that vehicles are no longer being built by the date of order but rather by the availability of various parts.

My dealer also called today and confirmed the order book is now closed for 2022 but that my kombi ordered a month ago should be with me latest end of next year, but that price increases after March will be passed on. I'm ok with that. He mentioned that if there's cancellation then it would bring mine forward.
One things for sure, supply and demand will dictate VW can sell these all day long - it's a seller's market at the moment.

Well, I guess that depends on what they have to say!

When I inquired re amending my order (i.e. adding further toys) I was told that, as I hadn't got a confirmed build date, my place in the order queue would be unaffected, but that price protection would be removed and that I would have to pay the current list price for the whole order (minus the originally-agreed dealer discount). Unsurprisingly, given there had been at least 2 price increases since I ordered, I declined to make the amendments.

Just get's more and more frustrating doesn't it! Looks like I'll just have to wait and go with what I originally ordered. I just want my chance to "go outback" in my "new toy" so I can escape the rat race as often as possible. One things for sure. Once I get it I'm planning on using it every weekend until retirement and then it's "goodbye and don't smell the roses" I'm off to tour our wonderful country, hopefully without any State border closures!

I'm still hopefull mine will be with me before the end of March but it'll be tight. I've had 3 different build weeks so far............. Wk11 then Wk2 now Wk9.

Looking for positives it's still within the 1st quarter 2022 which is what I was expecting.

When did you order Stuey? I ordered mid-May this year and have been repeatedly told "March 2022" for delivery, but I've not heard a peep re a build week, so I'm very sceptical I will see mine before the end of Q1.

Hmmm... interesting. In that case I'm wondering why I've not had a build date (let alone 3 !). Did you have to chase for a build date, or did the dealer/ VW offer that info?

I just drop the guy in the dealership an email asking for an update once a month. The weeks I've been given are all provisional dates (status 10) as opposed to confirmed (status 20)

My van arrived in Emden on 8th and I got an email on 15th saying it is still there, how long does it normally take to get to the dealer when it is at this stage ?

When I went through this previously with my T6 it was 3 weeks from built to collection. Different times now but sounds like you're very close.

I guess your dealer didn’t oversell their allocation like mine. They have a huge backlog of orders to put through before my March order. They are now only allowed to put a certain amount through to the factory each month.

I can only hope that's not the case. They're certainly not saying so if it is although I've no reason to not trust them as they were great last time round.

I see you're based in Kent @StueyStuey - did you order from JCB Van Centre in Ashford by any chance? I ask because that's where I ordered mine from.

No, I went to SMG Tonbridge.

I have seen that JCB Ashford do a lot of vans through Auto Ebid so I guess they may be doing a lot of other broker orders as well.

Gulp! And your the guy who received the email re losing price protection for vans not deliverable in Q1 - right?

Did you, like me, order via AutoeBid? (just a guess based on the fact they're probably not your local dealer)

I ordered the same way too from JCB Ashfield. I think I will be lucky if the van arrives before the emissions charging in June 2023

Edited to make more sense
