T6.1 new order delays

The whole delay saga has left me feeling pretty numb towards VW; we are after all, living in unprecedented times, ( parts shortages etc) and I've tried my best to stay "calm" for want of a better word, but the talk of enforced price increases has left me raging. This is sheer profiteering by VW, nothing more. They should be bending over backwards to support their UK customers, yet they are not.

Careful what you say on here though, as there are a few members of this community who don't share our anger.

It’s quite pathetic how you take it personally, it’s a business, you signed the terms.

It’s not profiteering to pass on increased costs, it’s business.

It’s tough if you don’t like it, there will be someone who will buy your van. VW don’t need to care, as the demand outstrips supply.

Why don’t you run to the media if it’s such a scandal…….

:mad:That is quite shocking reading @mjn. Judging by your dealers statement that would imply that all of us who have orders outstanding will be receiving this kick in the b**llocks and will be informed in due course. Unless some dealers are prepared to absorb these rises as a good will gesture?
Would it make any difference how the prospective van is financed as to the price rise?

I’d expect dealers to vary it depending on the customer relationship. In the exact same way they do discounts. Long term good customers will probably be looked after.

The Finance may have an affect if it included any manufacturer contribution. They can take that away no problem. Plus I’d expect an increase in the apr %.

You are correct in what you say it is business and I do feel for them involved!

Same as in my trade as a builder your pricing jobs and by the time there happy to proceed materials are rising through the roof at an incredible rate and so we have to unfortunately pass the rise in costs onto the customer

Our van was ordered by us in February, the conversion company for some reason didn’t order it until March (over a month) despite having a large deposit from us. Anyway, it’s a shuttle transporter, LWB, DSG with both side doors electric and also electric tail gate. Oh yeah and one of those elusive tow bars that even Campervan Chris on you tube mentioned this week lol.

Well it arrived at the conversion company last Wednesday. We just have to wait for them to schedule it in now for the conversion.

Thats good news @BRABUS! So maybe another 9 months then? ;)

Good news they are coming through! Hopefully not to long to wait for the conversion to be done

I have a 2.9% finance deal with £2900 of incentives. The current offer is £1800. Couple that £1100 difference with the price rise that could be £5k extra. Also, what if my dealer doesn’t give the same discount? That’ll be another few hundred.

Good news for you, but makes no sense that mine ordered at the same time could be 9 months after it! Different vans I know, but I keep hearing that DSG and electric doors and tailgate are what delays the build.

I think anyone who is faced with paying more for anything than the price they thought they would be paying when ordering feels your anger and understandably so. That said I genuinely don't think VW are profiteering, Everything from electronic components, steel, energy, rubber even cardboard boxes are rising in price by unheard of amounts. Most of these suppliers are accepting orders only based on cost at point of delivery and not at point of order which makes it impossible for any manufacturer of anything to give a price guarantee. Really crap times and unheard of in my life time but it is happening in all walks of life at the moment. You can kick the cat or consider if it is still worth the money, there isn't really any other option.

Well I'm not buying another so I'll wait it out. This one will last me 30 years may cancel the soft close tailgate and side door on my PV though.

The only thing that I think may have helped is that ours is an order for Motability so I am not sure if VW give some sort of priority to these orders. This is what I was told by one dealer when we were looking so this may or may not be the case.

So our conversion isn’t into an exciting camper I am afraid, it’s just a rear lift and mounting points to restrain 2 electric wheel chairs. So as much as we are looking forward to getting this, I would happily swap with anyone of you waiting 12-24 months for a camper.

I am going to be controversial here and throw in "my two cents worth" with regards to the current delays. Please remember that my experience is based in Australia and I have had the 'pleasure' of living in the most locked down city in the world - Melbourne, Australia. Also I need to add a caveat that I have no affiliation with VW at all. I am simply a customer who placed a $AUD5,000.00 deposit for a T6.1 Transporter in Oct 2020 with a reputable camper van conversion company.

It has been fascinating to read the various posts. I can share in the frustration. I believed I would be setting off in my new van in April 2021. At the moment there is no confirmed factory production date but the prediction is that the vehicle will not arrive until at least April 2022 ( so at least a 18 months waiting) and it then needs to be converted. So what is it all about? Well having experienced 262 days in Lock down since March 202 has given me plenty of time to reflect! One interesting point is that even if the van had arrived by now, we still have state border restrictions in Australia and it is not until the middle of December that I would be able to travel anywhere!

So what are my musings (based on a lot of red wine ordered over the internet)? I think it is important to have a little perspective about the current world situation and the effect COVID-19 has had on the world. In Australia we have seen a significant increase in the gap between the well to do and the not so well to do. Some people have profited due to COVID-19, some have remained relatively unchanged whilst others have lost significant income, security and even health due to no fault of their own.

I have friends who have had to close their businesses, sell their houses and cars and take their children out of their chosen schools. I have friends whose loved ones have passed away or fallen seriously ill. A significant number of people are challenged with mental illness at the moment.

I am very lucky and consider myself blessed. I am a school teacher and I was able to continue my full time employment during the extensive lock downs via Remote Learning. OK. It has been challenging. I went from working an average 10 hour day (don't mock me...I teach 196 students in seven classes from Years 7 to 9) to working 12 hour days because of the challenge of following up with all these students online. Boy it has been great to back in the physical classroom again (even with masks!) so that I can actually see and talk with my students and walk around and follow up on all the usual teaching strategies.

I am also lucky in that I live in the outer suburbs and was able to walk around some nice parks and walks within the 5 km restricted exercise limit from home. I also had good internet and a good wife who was able to put up with being stuck at home with me. In addition, because we could not go out or travel I have actually saved money! The same cannot be said for many who work in entertainment, hospitality, and many service industries.

So my point? Firstly I apologise in advance to those reading this post who are waiting for a T6.1 that they want to use for commercial reasons for their business. Obviously you are being impacted. However, it would appear that the majority of us who use this post are using our VWs for leisure mostly as camper vans. I am not sure what the situation is in Europe and the UK but if you own a new VW camper van in Australia then you are privileged to own a luxury item. Please don't howl me down! I do not want to seem judgemental about anyone who has worked hard and saved their money and made the well deserved choice to own one of these!

However, we need to realise that we are indeed privileged even if this is delayed at the moment. Indeed the fact that we can still afford to buy a new VW despite having been through the economic effects of a global pandemic is something to be grateful about. So what about all these VW dealers we have all been lamenting about? Well once again I can only talk from the Australian experience. Due to no fault of their own these businesses have seen a significant reduction in income due to lack of stock. However, they have still had continued expenses to pay despite this (Don't forget the conversion companies also). Then there is the reality that time has marched on, inflation has kicked in, and production and transport costs have significantly increased in the last 18 months. So who bears the brunt of this unpredicted and unexpected situation? That my friends is the "sixty four million dollar question"! (to quote my late grandfather).

I cannot answer that question. I imagine there is going to be a lot of negotiation between VW HQ, VW dealers and VW customers. Then there is the fact that the expenses will have increased for the conversion companies also. I am not happy about the prospect of paying more than I was quoted, especially considering the delay but I am grateful that I am still in a situation where I can afford to pay a little more if necessary (I did save money after all). I know some of you will not be in this situation and I feel sympathy for you, but I also think we should feel some sympathy for the VW dealers and trust that they will endeavour to do the best they can for their customers given their current economic circumstances. Take care, travel soon and be safe! Regards Ian.

It's also true that we are not alone with our VWs. There are many stories of cars being delivered without touch screens, USB ports, electric seats etc, and the dealers have said take it or leave it. The manufacturers are having to make it up as they go.

I can't help thinking, though, that delivering a vehicle with missing options sounds like a case for a price reduction, as opposed to the price hike mention previously by @mjn.

Following the recent posts on this thread, I emailed my dealer today to find out more about the current position. He wants to speak by phone… which sounds ominous! Will try to catch him tomorrow and I’ll update here if there’s anything of general interest to report…!

I rang the dealer today ( only because the courtesy van service reminder came on ) asked about the price rise etc and thankfully informed me that my order won’t be affected by the price rise as I’ll be getting my van before the end of March 22. Iv been put down for a build slot in December.
To be fair the reasoning he was given all seemed reasonable all be it not something anyone wants. He also informed me that the order books are closed for 2022 and that he’s dealership is only getting 17 allocated build slots per quarter.

100% agree. I read somewhere that Ford have produced new trim levels of some cars with reduced content, but at a lower price.
